914World.com _ FS/WANTED: 914 Cars and Rollers _ SOLD: 1972 914/6 Conversion

Posted by: billh1963 Sep 16 2014, 05:58 PM

The engine is sold and I really don't want another project. So, with that in mind I am offering an excellent body with all the conversion parts INCLUDING a complete 2.4L European 911T engine that is at scottyb's shop in Virginia.

The car is a super solid '72 from California and all the work has already been done for the 6 conversion. The buyer of the engine only wanted the engine...so, the real 914/6 oil tank, headers, engine tins, engine mount, carb linkage, clutch linkage, shift rod, transaxle, rebuilt tachometer, custom triple gauge, etc. stay in place. All you need to do (I smile as I say this) is install the engine in the car and start driving. The engine is of unknown provenance and turns over by hand but neither scottyb nor I know the condition of the engine...so a rebuild (or at least a top end rebuild) is probably in order.

Price is $10K. Bear in mind that you are starting with an excellent condition car that already has the hard work done. The car will be available around October 1. I can meet the buyer at scottyb's place where you can get the car and the engine or I will bring the engine to SC and you can pick everything up here.

No, I will not install the engine, rebuild the engine, etc. If I did that the price would effectively double and you would be deprived of the pleasure of putting the car together! biggrin.gif

Based on a couple emails/PM's I have received let me emphasize the following:

1. The car looks EXACTLY like ebay ad. The car is currently running and driving. The engine has not yet been pulled

2. There is nothing wrong with the car. The engine is a verified 1965 engine and is worth much more than the car itself. The engine is going to a '65 911 under restoration. That is why the engine is being sold

3. The buyer of the engine only wants the engine...everything else (as I listed) stays with the car.

4. To get the car on the road again the ONLY thing you will need is to go through the 2.4L (?) engine and install it. The engine is complete with carbs and air cleaner. You will use the 914/6 exhaust, engine tins, throttle and clutch linkages, transaxle/modified shift rod, oil tank, etc. included with the car.

I hope this clarifies things.

Sounds good. I've got several people close to committing to buy. First one with the cash gets it!

As anyone with conversion experience knows, it would take over $10K to get a 914 to this condition with these 914/6 parts not even counting the engine (which is basically being included for free)!

Update: The 2.4 is a '73 Euro T engine number 6530905. Thank you, Scottyb, for the verification!

For someone wanting to get into a 6 project this is certainly one of the easier ways to do it!

Car is still available. Lots of tire kickers but no one has committed. Car will be available until the engine is pulled (end of the month).

Look up auction 221520741564 on ebay. Original auction is still out there.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
I would say that the last post is not quite accurate!

Which part? The ebay auction? Can anyone else not see it?

Posted by: roblav1 Sep 22 2014, 01:49 PM

No... the part about tire kickers and no one committed! My offer considered the Zeniths instead of Webers. If the other engine had Webers I would have gone with the $10K asking price.

Well...making an offer and committing are two different things! biggrin.gif

However, I do appreciate your offer.

This car is a good deal. I remember the car here in N Cal a decade ago and it was a real nice one then. Not sure about the East Coast market but it would go quickly here in N Cal. GLWTS!

Thanks, Rob. It is a nice car and won first place for People's Choice Modified at Okteenerfest last year.

If it doesn't sell soon I'm going to rebuild the 2.4 and just keep it. For all the complaining about rusty East Coast cars here is a solid CA car with all the /6 work done.

Oh well...teeners are a fickle breed indeed smile.gif

Posted by: type47 Sep 23 2014, 11:57 AM

since the 2.4 looks like it's out of a 911, there is still a requirement for an engine mounted oil cooler (-6 suitable)? still tail-shifter?

You would need a /6 cooler (the existing one can be modified by Clewitt for around $150) or go external

The existing side shift transmission (with custom shift rod) goes with it

Posted by: billh1963 Sep 24 2014, 02:34 PM

Thinking I'm going to keep the car and rebuild the 2.4.

Thank you to all who inquired smile.gif

I... was... this... close...

If you weren't on the wrong side of the country, it would be mine by now.

Have fun with it. Cheers.

Good call in keeping it! I think you'll get a good return on your investment including how fun it is to drive!

Sent you a PM.

Bill,
An acquaintance of mine from San Diego has been trying to contact you.
He's seriously interested in the car if you will sell it - either with or without the 2.4.
His plan is to ship the car to me to complete it for him.
