Could not be duplicated for $50k. Great car, all it needs is cosmetics, prep and paint. The engine bay and trunk and door jambs have already been painted orange. It is a Porsche color from the time the car was made. I think it will look great. Hopefully a 914 guy will want it. It is scary fast, the engine was built to be 400HP but it has not been on a dyno.

Very nice place to start. 915 trans too. As for the price, your going to have to wait for a very motivated buyer. GLWS!

Post a link to a photo album with the build process showing all the problem rust areas. Your asking price demands lots of details.

I agree - I like the car and it appears to be a well put together. Pictures, and lots of them, will sell that car. GLWTS

That kind of price demands the "money shots"........like longs, hell hole etc. Set up Photobucket or Shutterfly or Dropbox public and folks will come and look shades.gif

I would be happy to post more pictures but have no idea how. I have a zip file I can e-mail to anybody that wants it. As far as rust goes, there isn't any. The battery tray had some rust, and it was removed, the battery is now in the trunk.

It would be VERY expensive to try and duplicate. My mechanic says it is an extremely strong engine and if he had the money he would buy it. Of course he got most of the money in the first place... The wheels are worth 3500. That was the going price a few years ago, maybe more now (turbo wheels). The engine I would guess, me not having it built, is in the 5k+ range, maybe 10k. The full roll cage keeps things stiff and a stiffening kit for the control arms was installed.

So if anybody wants to see more photos, please ask. I have seen other conversions (with paint of course) asking 40-50, no idea if they got that.

Set up a Flickr account and post a link here is probably the easiest way to share.

Pics are always good, but a shot of the hell hole and longs will be required as well.

I suggest you Google "914 V8 for sale 914world" to see previous listings for similar cars for a gauge on the market.

Fred,

I like the car and please don't take this the wrong way. $25k is about what a finished. completely finished, needs nothing, conversion car goes for. I know you cannot duplicate for more $$$ but 914's are not investment cars at this point. All but a few are upside down cars. I think your price point is closer to $15k to get the car sold. Even that may be difficult due to the lack of paint. Good luck with the sale.

I have done research, there is nothing out their with top notch components and engine and tranny combo. there is no hell hole, battery is in the back. I will try to get some pics of the longs, but there is no rust on the car.

I understand what you are saying. A car with a v6 and 901 would not go for a whole lot. This car has a hot 327, 915, turbo wheels ($3500 for those, maybe more now). I could probably break it apart and get 15k for the engine, tranny, and wheels.

I thought about paint, but it could cost 5 grand and I would never see it again.

That's what your future buyer is thinking

Posted by: Emmerich Jul 4 2015, 03:43 PM

I agree, but you don't buy these cars expecting an increase in value. If I tried to recoup what I have in it would incur robbing a bank. I can paint it, but somebody else now has the option of picking their own color. If there were mechanical issues, it would be different. its kind of like a house that needs new carpet. The buyer gets a little better price and they can pick their own. If someone thinks 25 is too high, they are welcome to negotiate with me. But I would be more inclined to negotiate with someone who has actually seen the car than somebody trying to find a good deal on the internet.

Fred,

I wouldn't take feedback from this place too personally. Most folks here with a post count in triple digits or more have seen lots of conversions cars actually sell. We genuinely want to make sure you know the market. Looks like a great car.

Posted by: Emmerich Jul 5 2015, 11:02 AM

I don't take it personally, people have valid concerns. Jump over to a Mercedes forum and those guys like to take things personally.

I am dropping the price to $21,500. Hope somebody wants it!

Posted by: Emmerich Nov 20 2015, 01:09 PM

Time to drop the price, now $22k. A steal!

Price increase?

Super nice, I already did one or I'd likely be calling you. Very nice set up. What temp does the car average in the TX heat? Mine rarely exceeds 175 deg. No oil coolers on mine.

Glws. I'll pass the word to some buddies.

Posted by: john914somers Nov 22 2015, 09:13 AM

Are the fender flares steel or fiberglass? Thanks!

I don't run a thermostat, so it takes a while to get hot, even in summer. It is a pretty hot motor, and it gets to 220, according to the gauge. I am suspect of that because I can put a thermometer on the radiator inlet and it is 190. I need to check out the gauge.
