914World.com _ FS/WANTED: 914 Cars and Rollers _ CL: Chicago '72 1.7L FI

Posted by: iwanta914-6 Aug 28 2015, 07:43 AM

Found it this morning on my daily CL search. Not affiliated, but this looks like something I'd be interested in looking at.

Says it's a '72 but I'm guessing that's the build date since it has bumper tits. Probably a '73? Also the owner looks like a collector so one would think that the car is well cared for.

I'm willing to go look at it for you, but a couldn't do it until after labor day.

First thing I see is broken driver exterior door handle. $9K and I have to leave the window down, or drag my ass across the seats.

Easy fix, so you know, but that a red flag for me, if you can't fix that detail, what else is wrong with the car. Def, get a PPI!!

I would ask him where he gets it serviced?

If he lives in Barrington probably Perfect Power or Fischer.

Easy enough to call either of those if he lets you know and talk to whoever wrenches on it.

Some additional photos from seller. He reports driver's door handle has been repaired. Had to compress so not sure of quality. 3rd or 4th owner, came from Iowa, some race history. Opinions sought.

VIN number provided by owner suggests it is a 73. Does not show up on member's VIN list. Any knowlege?

4732902839

Web search on VIN number turned up expired Craigslist add from DesMoins and an ended ebay add from earlier this summer. Current owner has not owned very long.

Another website shows the car selling in early August for $4750. Now double the price? Am I wrong to be suspect?

If 4732902839 is the vin then it is a 73. would need to check the vin on the right front fender to confirm.
