914World.com _ FS/WANTED: 914 Cars and Rollers _ WTB a summer daily driver 914

Posted by: vnault Sep 24 2015, 07:20 AM

When I was 12 I made a vow to buy a Porsche on my 35th birthday, I want to surprise everyone and really do it. I hope I can find the right car before November. The problem is I have around 10k Canadian to put for this project.

There is very few option in my province, Québec.. so I am willing to consider importing. But the exchange rate is horrible now.

If you know a good option for me to get a Porsche in my driveway for the right price, let me know.

*** Bonus point if the car is already plated in Quebec

Still Canadian money is real money... Anyone?

Posted by: matthepcat Oct 4 2015, 09:00 PM

That would be $7600 American Dollars.

If any Porsche will do, I would suggest looking at a Boxter. Prices appear to be way down for the earlier versions while 914 prices continue to rise rapidly. To find a 914 in decent shape and running under $8K is getting difficult, but they are out there if you have time to search. I let my wife talk me out of what appeared to be a steal of a 914 for under $6k just a month ago. I'll probably kick myself for a long time on that one.

Good luck in your search!

When you take into account the taxes for car importation and shipping it looks more like 5500$.

Still I had hope to find a good car.

$5500 USD for a good 914 will be hard to do. That ship sailed a while back.

You may get lucky; however, flippers scour craigslist, eBay, etc. nonstop.

There was an article a few months ago about a dealer who had three employees who searched internet sites 24 hours a day. That's your competition.

Going to Porsche events and meeting people may help you find a car through personal networks.

Decent 944's are available at that price range; great balance, fun to drive.

Posted by: Shredhead Oct 6 2015, 01:36 PM

It can be done. I just picked up a nice, running, Socal '74 2.0 for $5500. And no, I'm not a flipper.

Yes they can be found, but it's not easy. You have to get lucky. I got lucky but couldn't pull the trigger as I was going out of the country when my opportunity arose, sigh...

Anyway, pics or it didn't happen lol-2.gif

944 would be the best bang for your money.

Posted by: Montreal914 Oct 7 2015, 09:09 PM

You will not find what you are looking for in Quebec i.e. a clean rust free 914. I know what you are living, left 6 years ago for CA.

Get a CA inland car or Arizona. Clean 914s are there for the price you are looking for but remember that any 914 is a 40+ year car.

Lower end Boxster is a good choice but you probably want a 99+. They are also very well known for their grenade engine though a low cost one will have passed the test of time.

The 944 is definitely a good choice for this price range and a fun car.

Check the custom fees. If I recall, when I was looking at this, there aren't any for cars 25 years and older, just provincial and federal tax.

No matter what, get it from a dry area. Yes it will cost you to ship it to the border (US side) but you wont regret it. The Quebec climate is just terrible for any car winter and summer. Plan on having a garage for this toy and have a huge de humidifier.

Si tu as besoin d'aide, je peux peut-etre te donner un coup de main.

Good luck and keep us posted on your finding

I finaly went to see http://en.annonce123.com/gallerie_photos.php?ann_id=5588782 and as some of you said to me, that car worth more around 2-3k$.

Most of the body seems in really good shape but the hood and the left front fenders must be changed. The carpet were crap and there was drill hole in the doors close to the mirror as the mirrors were replace by 911 mirrors.

I drove a 914 for the first time and know it is the right model, but it was probably not the right car.

Looks like there is potential.
2.0 engine, center console, lots of repair work done. Attractive price (Can $). Minimum information but the passenger door gap on the side picture seems good although the picture is small...
