914World.com _ FS/WANTED: 914 Cars and Rollers _ FS: 75 13b Rotary Conversion (Bay Area CA)

Posted by: matthepcat Jan 17 2017, 06:07 PM

For sale is my 1975 Porsche 914 with a ported 13b Mazda Rotary engine.

SOLD SOLD SOLD! Thanks for the interest everyone. Staying in the Bay Area!

Details:
- Mazda 13B ported rotary engine with a heavily ported Nikki carb (Mileage unknown)
- Good shifting 901 side shift trans
- Front Mount oil cooler
- Fresh PMB 911 brakes
- New Koni adjustable shocks
- 5 lug conversion
- Bumper back date(Rear) (Steel with new 914rubber top)
- Bumper back date(front) (Fiberglass GT bumper & GT valence)
- Car comes with steel front bumper and new 914rubber top as well for the front
- Electric trunk pop
- 15x7 Fuchs all around freshly powder coated gunmetal grey
- Brand new HanKook Ventus R-S3 summer tires
- Lowered about as low as you can go on the street by High Performance House in Redwood City Ca
- New giant Flexalite fan with shroud to keep temps cool in the hot summer months. It hasn't needed the fan in the winter thus far.
- Comes with a box of extra parts like the factory chrome mirrors and assorted parts that have come off the car in the past.

Body is rust free as they come, solid longs and suspension points. Hell hole is solid as per typical in CA cars.

Driving experience:

I have owned a v8 conversion car and a Porsche 6 conversion. This car beats both of them on mountain driving. Light weight, low to the ground and the ported rotary feels like high HP 2 stroke engine. Lots of fun RPM range to play with and draws lots of attention with its aggressive idle (due to porting).

What does it need?
- One of the seats need recovering
- The targa top has a few rub marks from trunk storage & could use new felts (squeaky)
- The gas tank needs the vapor system looked at as when it is full you smell gas fumes

You can hear it idle here: https://youtu.be/hHGN-QjFdBg (Sorry for the night video, will try to get some new daytime videos.)

Here is a daylight idle video: https://youtu.be/W5-zD0i-SQk

Here is a cold start video: https://youtu.be/RNV4IeSHv8g

This can be picked up and driven home no problems. PM me if you are interested.

Is it carbureted or fuel injected? Kinda hard to tell, but it looks like a carb in one of the pics. If it's a carb, what carb and intake manifold did you use?

Do you still have the oil injection system? Or do you just mix some 2-cycle oil into the gas?

Wish I was in the market. I would snatch this up quick!

Ported Nikki carb as stated above.

Good question about the manifold, I will take a closer look. I haven't had to mess with it much because it runs well.

It has the stock oil injection system, but I still add some 2 stoke oil in each gas tank for good measure (probably overkill but I am paranoid).

Thanks for the compliment Rick. Tires are 195/50/15 and I believe the Fuchs are 7 width. The smaller rotating diameter is a perfect gear reduction for the rotary engine.

I will see what I can do. Finally some clear weather this weekend might make that possible.

Nicely done! Love how much room there is in the engine compartment, sounds like the ideal engine swap for this car.

Great car, and its really giving me bad ideas. Its in my hometown too! I have some questions:
- What are all the switches for on the center console panel? ( I know one is for the fuel pump)
-How bad is the fuel economy? I know this isnt a commuter but still curious
-How much power do you think it makes?
-Any issues with the cooling system?
-Cash only, or are you interested in trades (please say no! lol )

Howdy,

Switches control fuel pump, fans and backpad light. This was installed by the P.O. I have not gotten around to installing thermostatic controlled fan switch and having the fuel pump run off the ignition key.

Fuel economy is poor if driven exuberantly and fair when cruising (never measured). Not
a commuter but I have commuted in the car occasionally (50 miles a day).

Power is probably 175ish. Much faster than most type IV's.

Cooling system is pretty legit. Nothing fancy, but a big radiator running a large fan. This is my second water cooled 914 and although the radiator does not look as fancy as my custom aluminum one I had in my V8 car, it cooles better. Never really need to run the fan in winter, but you do on warm summer days.

I am looking for cash, but trade could be possible depending on what you have.

Thanks

Nice ^.

Speaking of the Alameda, I drove up there this morning to go to the Coast Guard island.....the roads are destroyed on the freeway and bridges. potholes everywhere with all this rain.
