914World.com _ FS/WANTED: 914 Cars and Rollers _ FS: 1970 914-6

Posted by: trapper Mar 26 2017, 04:42 PM

I've had this car for ten years but I'm getting older and my Cayman is much easier to drive. It isn't a concours car, it is fully caged and has a few warts. It was tweaked by Stoddard years ago and has most of the mods in the Panorama article attached below. Engine runs strong but rich, still needs some tuning.

1970 Porsche 914-6 S/N 9140432654 - Certificate of Authenticity
Original signal orange - color change to diamond silver metallic many years ago.
2.8 Liter 10:5:1 compression, built by John Truman on an early replacement case (no serial number). Hydraulic chain tensioners. TWM throttle bodies, Electromotive Tec-GT ECU.
Oil cooler in front trunk - second oil filter on ’72 911 filter console in engine bay.
Optima battery in front trunk.
Full roll cage tied into suspension points.
Recaro seats (worn area on driver’s seat)
Removable Momo “Competition” steering wheel
Crow five point harnesses
Early JWest Engineering Shifter - transmission converted to side shifter
Later style “pull clutch” - no clutch pulley.
Transmission has billet intermediate plate.
Bridgestone 225-50 RE11’s on 7x16 Fuchs wheels front and rear.
Solid front upper strut mounts
22mm Sway-A-Way torsion bars (original bars included)
Tarett Engineering front sway bar and drop links (original sway bar included)
Factory rear sway bar
250lb Eibach rear springs on adjustable perches (original springs included)
23mm Mercedes Master Cylinder (19mm M/C included)
911 S Alloy Front Calipers restored by PMB Performance
914-6 GT rear calipers restored by PMB Performance (calipers are in a storage box, currently M calipers on rear included)
Adjustable brake bias valve between seats
Brake cooling ducts
Tangerine Racing rear trailing arms.
Elephant Racing PolyBronze bearings front and rear.
European Racing headers installed, original heat exchanges in good condition included. Dual outlet muffler.
JWest Engineering blade-type fuse box (original included)
High Torque gear reduction starter (original starter included)
Chassis Stiffening Kit

Chuck Stoddard looked at pics of the car and said it was one that they modified.

Hi Glenn,

I've known Glenn and his 914-6 a long time. I still remember a few years ago when you took me for a street ride and Wow, I still remember the thrill. pray.gif This is a well sorted 914-6.

Guys, this is a good/honest 914 guy to work with.

Here's a pic from my archive files how it started life & after on the track. wub.gif

It needs to go back to orange! I can do that if I get my rotisserie back.

Any pictures of underneath?

Posted by: flyer86d Mar 27 2017, 03:39 AM

That is very cool. I hope someone buys it and enjoys it and does NOT restore it to stock!

I'll see if I can find any pics underneath. The car is currently in heated storage at my mechanic's shop so I can't get under it right now.

Price reduced to $45,000 OBO

Posted by: Fubawu Mar 31 2017, 09:31 AM

This is a great deal! If I didn't have three of them I would be all over this. (still tempted)

Posted by: mepstein Mar 31 2017, 10:52 AM

I think this is a very special six. If anything, it's underpriced. There is a category on the earlySregistry for other porsches. I would list it on the site. Quite s few guys on early S have 6's and they might appreciate this unique 6.

Trapper, how many hours/miles on the engine since it was built?
When you say early case do you mean aluminum case or early 914 case?

I don't know miles or hours - I have owned the car for 10 years and John Truman (formerly of Stoddard) built the motor. I believe it is an aluminum replacement case (no serial number). The lower valve covers are 6 bolt, not 11 like the later motors, but it does have hydraulic chain tensioners. The number on the case is 901.101.102.0R

From the early911sregistry.org website:

901.101.101.0R 901.101.102.0R
This is the third version of the aluminum 901 case, beginning about build 9730, perhaps earlier. This, the first of the "R" cases was short lived with about 2000 to 3000 produced. Doing a bit of research indicates that most people with this case find they are not numbered; replacement cases.

It's possible I have the original six engine from this car. Need to know the serial#. That may make a difference to a buyer.

Ha Ha!... now comes decision-making time!

Posted by: Van914 Apr 2 2017, 05:18 PM

Sale is pending - waiting for PPI

Posted by: trapper May 24 2017, 07:29 AM

I just wanted to update to let members know that the sale of my car is pending awaiting a PPI. I will update again as I hear the results.

Posted by: Nor.Cal.914 May 24 2017, 11:25 PM

I love the pull on the fenders and quarter panels! Does anyone else finish them this way today?

Posted by: Larmo63 Jun 3 2017, 07:30 PM

I HATE those kind of flare jobs, BUT...., with that documentation, it is pretty legit to keep it that way.

Also met the new owner at the Werks Reunion. Nice car. Talked with him about either to restore it back to the way it was. It is one of a hand that were built. Yes it takes dollars to do it, but it would a beautiful car to own.

It is one of the Stoddard "massaged" cars, originally owned by Mike Valentine. The new owner has invested some bucks already and plans to do more.
