I've mentioned my interest in the past year to find another pristine car. I realize just how hard the search may be but I'm actually quite patient. Realize there are a few of these cars around but they just don't come up very often. Some of you know that I did find a beautiful '73 survivor. Love the car but my wife and I are both fanatics about survivor cars and we've come to love the 914's.
Not looking for restorations or repaints. Looking for a Sahara Beige Steve-type car. Even better if it is a unique color like Steve's or the classic 70's green's and orange cars. And even better if it is an original owner car. I hear Pat Garvey may have a really nice car but not the time to sell apparently.
I'm patient and in fact buying one one in 6-12 months is a bit better for me than today but I'd like to start the search and if one came up quickly I'll give it some real hard thought as to pulling the trigger.
The next interesting question is what a pristine car would go for these days. Have not seen anything like this being sold in the past 12+ months. I have some thoughts but hard to say.
Always interested if anyone here knows of one out here.....

Yes, hard to find. Last year I sold an all original 71 for $17.5. Today that would be a $22k + car. 2 years ago I sold an all original 74 1.8 for $22. That same car is for sale in Germany now for $45k. It was. 22,000 mile survivor in perfect showroom condition.
A less than perfect but rust free car is going to be $15-20k now.

Agree. I'm fully expecting that the right car is north of $30k.....how far north just depends upon how original and pristine it is. I'd prefer a '73 or "74 2.0 which narrows the pool of cars even more. But as I said, I'm willing to take the time to find the right one.

Unless it's a 98 or 99 paint code - & never repainted - then it's not an original color/paint job.
It looks too dark to be Aubergine #98 (paint to another Porsche color), but that could be camera &/or display color differences. I can't think of any other purple-ish colors like that in the Porsche colors up to the md-70's - but maybe there is something.
So otherwise, I think it would probably have to be a #99 "paint to customer sample" color.
If that seller has the original documentation from new &/or COA which gives the 98 or 99 paint info, then it would be a good one to add to the 914 info.
I'm pretty sure Steve is looking for an all original 914.

This car looks awesome. If it came from the factory with that color / it has a 99 paint code, then it's one of a kind. Would like to know the seller's asking price, and the paint code.

Steve is looking for another all original - with original paint - car.
Both of those links are of repainted 914s, & I misread on the Sepia one FS by a member on here, thinking it was original paint, & sent it to Steve. Apparently Steve read that one better than I did, & corrected me!
I agree with you on definition of "many" - there really are very few all original Porsches of any type out there at 20+ years, as evidenced by the paltry numbers of entrants in our PCA Zone 8 Concours - & the rules allow up to 25% paint &/or interior/upholstery to be not original.
I think Steve is looking for 99-100% original 914. VERY few of those out there indeed!

Many, meaning they certainly exist but the owners don't usually throw them on ebay or craigslist. Most are private sales. I see early 911's and even some 356's available in the condition Steve is looking for but they never make the open market.

If I remember right Steve spend a lot of time removing the undercoating and detailing his car. Not sure if Steve’s car (Sahara Beige Steve-type car) had any nicks that he fixed? It looks like it is the cleanest 914 to exist that has not been restored.
So are we saying no patina(AKA), any chips, and door dings? On original paint

There are several low mile cars on e bay now, and that boston car is certainly original enough, but even I think that 29 is a bit too much for a 1.7.
Of course you purchase a car like this and you are now the automatic caretaker of your own personal 914 museum and can not drive the car much at all or you will drive the value off. That is why I now like the lesser cars. Fix them up, and they are great to drive in bliss not having to worry about a nick or scratch. Steve and I now between us have 16 914s that we really cannot drive and enjoy as we did when we were young. HOWEVER, the best thing is that we constantly have 914s around that we can drive and have fun with, respectable, but not too nice!

Thanks for the nice comments. And yes, if I'm buying another, I really do want it to be about as nice as the one we have. I don't have room for much more but one more nice 914 would be fun to have.
To George's comments below concerning having pristine cars that one cannot realistically drive, I do agree that it is the love/hate part of owning all original cars. But, I personally will drive my cars minimally because I enjoy it and I'm not in it just for the investment. I know I won't lose money long term and 750-1,000 miles per year is a good thing in my view. I just need a couple so that I can drive several thousand miles a year between them!

As mentioned though, if I'm going to get just one more, I may just hold out for a really interesting one....right year ('73-73) right engine (2.0) and right color (orange or green or PTS.....as I said....needle in a haystack.

It only took me thirty years to find my lil car. I am not selling it.
