Ok guys,
After a few "near misses" I still did not find the right car. The world has been very helpful with a few guys performing PPI's for me. Big thanks to them.
In the meantime I kicked out the 2008 HD Roadking classic which increases my budget a bit. Still looking for the same :
* as from 1973
* chrome or normal bumpers, don't like the big bumpers
* 2.0 or more
* prefer flashy colors (olympia or arctic blue, tangerine orange etc)
* still allergic to rust and mechanical issues
* like the appearance package especially fuchs wheels
* budget around 20K (depending on location of the car this can still be stretched a bit)
* no projects, car should be ready to enjoy
PM me but expect a list with a million questions fm me and a PPI by a 914world guru
Bye for now
DaxGreetings fm Belgium,
I’m once again on the market to find a nice and honest 914. My wife thinks I’m crazy after the issue I had with buying overseas but I’m convinced that the best 914’s are on your side of the pool
Last year I made the mistake to buy a 73 914 2.0 with appearance package in Olympia blue fm Ebay sight unseen. Spoke with the seller several times, pictures looked nice and the real owner was “a dentist” and the car was only used to make trips to his cabin by the lake blablabla. When deposit was placed, shipper and pickup was arranged I found out that the seller/builder was a guy banned on this forum and Pelican for being dishonest.
When the car arrived Rotterdam and I had my first look I felt sick to my stomach as the car was dripping oil, paintjob was crap, crunching 2nd gear, engine was not performing well on the single carb etc etc. In his description the car was restored (new shocks, new paint, no rust, strong engine etc) but stupid enough I did no PPI and did the payment outside Ebay. Tried to contact ebay but soon after his account disappeared, phonecalls left unanswered (old lady on the phone saying that she didn’t know any Danny H…. – just google)
Anyway I invested some money but still the car wasn’t good enough for me and sold it with a loss (informed the new owner about the flaws of the car).
Perhaps being a fool I’m on the hunt once again but it is stronger than myself. I will now only buy from longtime forummembers, will arrange PPI etc. Perhaps still not 100% watertight but ok, will see.
If anyone has for sale a nice 1973 2.0 in good condition pls let me know. I like the flashy colors like Olympia blue, orange and red but would consider other ones as well (no black). Prefer the fuchs wheels and centerconsole. Rips in seats, no problem I can re-upholster myself. Allergic to rust and mechanical issues so that part should be sorted. Don’t care much about originality as long as it is done properly. Seller has to be patience cause I need to arrange PPI, get a shipper, make payment etc . I’m an honest buyer but I can’t get it all done in one day.
The car I like very much is the red one fm Ontario/Canada but price is a bit too high (need to ship it, import etc). Don’t want to make an offer as I perhaps offend the seller (if the car is really as good as he describes then he will get it sold local). Budget about 15 K (with a little stretch for the right car). I don’t expect concours condition (ofcourse not) but I sometimes see cars sell really quick within my budget which I like.
If somebody out here has one for sale which is not advertised yet, or can assist somehow I would highly appreciate. No links to craiglist ads of sellers you don't know pls.
Final note: like the 944 s2 convertible (had one years ago but sold it to finance another project) as well but I don’t think that anybody of the aircooled lovers here has one
Thks in advance
Dax

I might sell mine. 74 2.0, Bahia Red. Fuch wheels, shorter center console to allow for a/c
dax, I would sell you mine, but I think it is out of your Price Range.
It is the current Car of the Month (Voted in, but yet to be put on the Homepage )
I'm going to have my Knee Replaced within the next Month which means I won't be able to play with it for 6 months (not like I have ever driven it much). I have other projects to work on anyway!
Nice Triad, TC
Good luck with the knee surgery
I have a friend who has a 73 2.0 - all the "S" components. Phoenix Red. Paint is rough in a couple spots, but mostly fine in others. The car has an upgraded sway bar likely Weltmeister, and I believe Konis. Momo steering wheel. Runs great and is fun to drive. He doesn't want to sell it right away, but likely would in the upper teens.
Good luck with your search!
I sent details on my next car for sale, no reply.
Hi there!
I have been looking for something within your specifications for myself also. I have just found a nice unit and bought it.
I can help you out with what I have seen and driven here in California.
Feel free to PM me. J'ai parlais francais en cas ou...
Andres.

A few nice ones were offered, a lot of bad ones to...
For some cars I nearly took the plunge but backed out after PPI or a few things were just not my cup of tea...
Still I think this platform is the way to go as I got some great help fm some of you.
My day will come !
greetings fm rainy Belgium

Another place to look is Bring A trailer bringatrailer.com the cars on there really get picked apart by the critics so, at least you have a better idea what youre bidding on. there have been some really great cars on there lately. I am still trying to decide what to do with mine.

I look for the worst ads, Porsche mis-spelled, no pics, hard to get a hold of seller, ect. Less or no competition from other buyers. Thats how you get the best deals.
Thought I was the only one seeing this nice car... NOT
Must say, market is silent. Assumed with higher budget more cars would be offered... not much for sale nowadays.
Will be patient, winter is coming and need the car by march/april.
Thks

You might also want to look at this '73 2.0L....it's currently listed on EBay and Craigslist. I considered buying it 3 years ago from the previous owner when it was in Utah. It's a rare black on black 2.0L with matching numbers. the previous owner was a Porsche fanatic. Here are several photos that I had on file.....

Nice looking car. With OE Fuchs I think thats fairly priced but those look like AE repops.
if you see a car you like, you can send me a detailed photo shoot and I will give you my opinion. Do it all day for 914 prospective buyers
Here's a little more info and photos of the black 914.....I have no affiliation....I'd just like to see this car go to a good home. The detailed description of the work performed is from 3 years ago.....the name and contact info of the person who did the work is at the bottom of the page.

Matt Hasara did the majority of the restoration
1973 Porsche 914 2.0 Barry Richins (previous owner)
Hi Jeff.
Matt Hasara restored the majority of the Richins 1973 914 2.0. You are more than welcome to call him. His phone number is 801-735-7817 we have nothing to hide.
The car was owned by a family in Dear Valley, Utah and they also own a home in Monterey, California which is where the car lived most of its life.
Barry Richins bought this car almost two years ago, he is a Porsche lover and has owned over a 100 Porsches. He showed this car to me and gave me an open check book to restore this car. I believe he had no idea what this car needed and I didn't either until I started to look this car over closely.
I have known Barry since 1997 and have sold him around 18 Porsches which he drives and sells usually within a couple of years. He has never restored cars in the past to my knowledge except a 1969 911 T Coupe that has gone under a major restoration which I have over seen and is close to completion. Barry doesn't have the time to deal with restoring cars, his business is building and meeting customers needs regarding Mechanics trucks.
I am more than happy to chat with you at any time, please feel free to call.

$30K is relatively cheap for a pristine original or restored 73 2.0. I can’t seem to completely restore one for under $50K.
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/d/1973-porsche/6408776414.html
Seller took it off ebay and lowered his price on craigslist.
Can't contact as I cannot pass this bloody captcha.... keeps on asking if I'm a robot

This looks like a really impressive build! Guessing it might go out of budget near the end though. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-porsche-914-12/
Hi Dax,
There was a black 73 2.0 for sale in the Los Angeles Craigslist a week or two ago for 21k. It looked in good shape and very original. I would recommend looking into it. Take care and hope you find your dream car!

Hi,
Just to let you guys know that my search is over. Found a beautiful 1976 sunflower yellow car in original paint. Got a lot of help fm forum members and I would like to
thank you all. Actually the story ended in a way I never expected ...
It all started with a few emails with burton73 and it ended by buying two of his nice
cars. Between start and end a lot of emails, pics, videos, ppi’s (man he was patient) over a period of 3 months or so...
The cars, a 1986 911 convertible with 70k miles and a 1976 914 are currently loaded into a seacontainer for shipping out of LA in the next day or two.
Changed my mind and I’ll keep the 911 and the 914 will be sold to a friend. Once the budget is there again I will be back as a 914 is still on my bucketlist. In the meantime I will monitor this amazing platform in silence.
Thank you all once again and keep up the good work with this forum !!
Oh yes, my advise to (foreign) buyers... be patient, the right cars and sellers are here to find.. my advise to sellers, remain honest and fair...
Greetings fm Belgium
Dax
Nice cars!
