914World.com _ FS/WANTED: 914 Cars and Rollers _ 1975 1.8 - restore or convert?

Hi,
I've been privileged to own three 914's (prior to this one), even bringing a 1.8 home from Germany courtesy of the Army in '83 (much to the chagrin of a guy in a beautiful forest green version around Ventura who probably wasn't use to driving his car at 120 all the time, (but I digress).)
So I found this sweet '75 1.8. I can send pics. My info on the car is from the mechanic who worked for the Porsche dealership in La Mesa, California (near San Diego) who sold it to the original owner. The owner took exceptional care of it, and all the services are logged in the owner's manual or subsequent documentation by the mechanic.
When the owner died at 100, the car went to his daughter. She drove it 100 mi. over the next 4 years, but let the car sit for 3 years after that. Water ponded in the rear trunk, and a good portion of the rear half of the trunk pan is rusted out. But that's pretty much all the rust there is on the car. The daughter gave it to the mechanic, and, after servicing it, he had it for another 8 months before I got it.
The car has 162K miles on it. Because of it's condition and documentation, I'm inclined to see if anyone is interested in doing a full restoration. If there is no interest in that, I will do a motor and suspension conversion and go race the thing.

That would have been Mesa Porsche Audi. Now defunct.
On a side note, I'm not sure what this intel is for. Is the car for sale (price required), are you fishing for inquires? The ad reads '75 and '76. Inquiring minds

Yes, Mesa Porsche Audi was original dealer. It's a '75, so I apologize for that. I'll take photos today.

No, it's not your eyes. What I was looking for, first, was a general idea based on the number of cars that have come through here about whether it would be worth restoring. If the consensus were that it was indeed a good candidate to restore, then I would probably be looking to sell it. Right now, I just want to drive it around for a couple of weeks and see how I feel about it, so I'm not inclined to put a price on it at the moment. Naturally, this doesn't preclude anyone from making an offer. Thanks for the interest.

L-Let car, make sure no vac. leaks from oil filler o-ring and intake assembly after the flapper valve.
I removed the "extra" hoses on mine and made delrin plugs.
Is that an "S" or a "5" in between the 914 and .8 on the rear panel?

Could you add a picture of the stickers on driver's side door jamb, below the striker plate?

No bi-annual smog checks but could still be checked at a road side check point, tough call what to do with the exhaust.

I'm going to stick to smog exempt is smog exempt, '75 and older. Unless someone can prove me wrong.
It either is, or it isn't. Can't be both

Keep in mind it is NOT the build date but the model year that matters to CA DMV. You can have a car build in 1975 but be considered a 1976 model year, and thus need SMOG.
If it is a 1975 model year then it is exempt, period.
+1 for restore regardless.

Not true. When you buy/sell a car in the far northern (rural) counties, you must smog. . but not after that. No biannual.
Lived there. . but not anymore.
