914World.com _ FS/WANTED: 914 Cars and Rollers _ FS 1970 914-6 needs restoration

Posted by: Pennyanguy Sep 8 2018, 11:12 PM

1970 914-6... the car from my high school years.. has not been on the road since 1986. Stored inside all this time. all original parts as far as I know. have all the parts not seen in pics (carbs, carpets...) . Best offer over $20K takes it...I kept it all these years thinking one day I would be able to give it the restoration it deserved...not possible now!

Located in Western NY (near Rochester).
More pics available... send me a email and I can send you a linkAttached Image

More pics? Any rust? Please identify engine/transmission issues, if any.

you can see grass thru the hole in the long beneath the hell hole.

I think it’s a steal at $20K.

Posted by: BENBRO02 Sep 9 2018, 10:34 AM

It looks pretty rusty but with a 20k price there's a lot of room for repairs as long as all the original parts are there.

Don't open the doors though before you get that thing on frame fixture.. It looks super rusty.

That's easy to think if you don't know the value of 914-6 parts. Just the metal sub dash is a $500-1000 piece. the core steering wheel is $600, the six specific rear shift rod $400, core trans, $1500, ect, ect. $20K in parta on that car besides the chassis.

Might be a killer deal !

Posted by: Pennyanguy Sep 14 2018, 09:20 PM

Actuall, car is pretty solid...doors open and close well, no flex when I stand on the doorsill and bounce. I had a few 914's in my youth , a few "parts" cars... this is by far in better shape then it seems.

It was recommended to put the photo link here...so here goes

I have added photo of the engine serial number 6404977

I personally think this a decent buy.. I would be in on this project if I were not so deep on my current build.

Posted by: Racer Sep 16 2018, 12:30 PM

the additional pics also help shed some light on the overall condition of the project that one is starting with.

Good luck with the sale!

I don't want to refute any thoughts or comments here but the door gap and the hole in the long would concern me.

I think that it is lacking steel

Used to be a great 914 color, and someone should certainly restore it, but the time and money would put one over 100 k in this car to do it correctly

But it would be done correctly and not all the high dollar cars out there are done right. Lots of tomfoolery under the paint. Also, for a lot of guys, it’s easier to buy a 20k car and put money in over time than to buy an 80k car all at once.

Well, glad to say the car has sold...for I think a fair price ....above what I started the offering at...just to give you all an idea what the market is right now.

it has sold to a 914 world member in CA...any more info will be his right to divulge...I sincerely hope he does too it what he stated, and wish him the best of luck in doing it...I think he will be pleasantly surprised when he gets it...it is , I believe , in better condition then the photos showed... as solid as it was 30 years ago and if running I would drive it today just as I did when I was a crazy teen! That car won an awful lot of street races down the winding roads of Oyster Bay, Syosset and Huntington NY in my High school years. Not much in the day could keep up, and even fewer could hold a tight line like she could! She holds great memories. Hopefully now it will live to make memories for someone new. I am sad and happy at the same time... fair well my friend!

Thank you Tom, I look forward to the day I finish the restoration and you can fly out and drive it once again. I do see that it is in very good condition as you stated with a few bad areas that I will fix, no problem. All the VIN tags are there and it is the numbers matching engine and most if not all the original six parts are there.

So yes it was me that bought the car. It was loaded on the transporter today and should be at my shop in 10 days or so. I can't wait to see it.
I'll run a thread on the restoration once I dig into it.

Thanks again Tom,
Kent S.

Congratulations Kent. beerchug.gif

No doubt you're the perfect person to take on this resurrection project. And you get to keep this beauty when finished. piratenanner.gif

From seeing your restoration work firsthand, I expect nothing less than another show stopper.

Congratulations! This is going to be epic. Kent is going to have a perfect Adriatic Blue (one of my favorite colors) 914-6 that is numbers matching. Very cool and exciting. Can't wait to see this Six in person. beerchug.gif smilie_pokal.gif piratenanner.gif
