Nice...I don't see a price for the 914-4 headers?

Posted by: Maltese Falcon Oct 24 2015, 06:47 PM

I'll have the 914-4 listing updated this coming week, but the Racer net price is $653.00...minus discount biggrin.gif

...just added this value added savings;

These remain seriously attractive, even without heat. Really nice work, Marty.

If they had reasonably non-hoopty, factory-ish pressed steel heat exchanger boxes (more SSI, less "boxy") plus an option for Jet Hot—even if that added $1000. With Jet Hot, who needs stainless? I wonder if heater boxes could even be made in such a way where the pipe hole halves could be "adjusted" or ground down to account for the larger pipe sizes?

Just asking, Marty—because I'd like to be an MSDS customer. smile.gif And...love that they are made here. flag.gif

Not to derail Marty's post, but I'd check with Jet Hot, they might not recommend that application due to fumes and out gassing of the coating.

Those BMW headers are slick!

Very good point...though those kind of calls always go "What? Safety? No. We can't say if you'll be safe and you shouldn't do it."

Of course, they may be right. On the other hand, I wonder if the coating would get into the boxes, or could be prevented from doing so?

It's a pity SSI never finished its 914-6 HEs, but the reality is I am not sure stainless is needed anymore, the way most 914s are driven today, and will be driven going forward. I suspect a new set of mild steel header will outlast me, and maybe my 914.

Hi Marty,
We are finally getting around to installing your header on my friend's BWM2002. At least it's bolted to the engine....Looking sharp! He can hardly wait...

When using these beautiful /4 headers, how are you guys supporting the weight of the exhaust? I'm assuming the boomerang bar won't work for the new system?

Gary ...looking sweet in the hi-temp metallic ceramic coat. Also good choice with that port-gasket/ heat shield combo, keeps the temps down in that heated area . Hope to see this at Hollywood Tacos +Cars cruise-in soon !¡

Best method for supporting the custom fit muffler is to simply extend a small bracket from muffler-to-tailhousing on the transaxle. You can use both (or one) of the existing 8 x1.25mm short studs which are the same support locating points as the OE bracket.
Use 1 x .125 " (min) flatbar steel.

Just added an awesome color to our exhaust header products; Satin black metallic ceramic , same high temp characteristics as our Satin silver coat. NO these headers won't fit our 914s...these go on a big block/ Rat engine, alcohol + blown SandRail, the " Villa Express "Attached Image

I have a set of MSDS six headers on my car and I was thoroughly impressed with the quality. Heck, it's a shame they don't show from the outside they're so beautiful!

Thank you Rob for your positive feedback ! There is usually someone crawling under the 914s to have a look -see on how things are constructed, types of exhaust, etc...just look for spare change under your car lol-2.gif

What type of muffler do you recommend with you headers on a 914-4? Do you have any pictures? Thanks. --- Brian
