A comparison of chamfered edges and non chamfered edges (going to remake the chamfered one here in sample pic, a little too aggressive, really notice on the period)

I know, the 914-8 looks bent, odd looking picture

Yes I am , sorry for not looking at the thread like I should!
I will get your 914-RS done this week and send you a picture for your approval.
I put these in my tumbler, I think I like the satin look a tad bit more than polished myself.

Mike,
Thank you Sir! I will wear your emblem with pride...I want an additional number though as well please. Please advise if this is possible. I also would like a slightly larger chamfer to the edges/radius if possible. I will gladly pay for the hassle...
914-RS with the smaller subset of 7.0 (just like you are displaying the 2.0 examples above).

No extra charge for the drawing/programming, I do most of that while enjoying daughter/daddy TV time watching the shows we like that the wife wants no part of. (pretty much anything SciFi)

Mueller,
Really great stuff, I wish I thought of this earlier for a Christmas Tree orniment.
Wondering?
Can you do a one off special emblem like - 911-RS -?? It would be for a good Porsche friend doing his original owner 1964 911-S into a 911-RS clone. Let me know if you can do a special one with an approx. cost $_____?
Merry Christmas to you and family and blessing for good health in 2018

Best information I could find online is that it is 6061....a fellow member had his emblem black anodized and it came out nice.
I hope your friend likes it.

Posted by: Chris H. Jun 29 2018, 08:04 PM
I'd say stick with the aluminum and just paint it satin black. I just painted mine today. You'd have to look pretty close to know it wasn't the stock badge...except mine says 3.3 on it. Will post pics after I hit it with one more coat and it dries.
Posted by: Chris H. Jul 4 2018, 08:59 AM
Here it is. Top one is plastic, bottom is aluminum.
It's harder than it looks to get a good pic! Although the 3.3 looks larger it's in the same scale as the other badge. Just the angle of the photo I guess.
These are very nice quality. I would pay 2X what Mike is charging.

Short update for anyone that cares,
The emblems have been a love/loathe project for me for sometime.
My current mill is or was not ideally set up for such a small part. Spindle speed too slow (takes a long time to cut even a small emblem), no flood coolant (required me to stand there and blow chips off part to as not clog things up and break a cutter) plus a few other little things here and there.
Like many others I would cheap out on machinery or tooling and it has been getting me depressed and frustrated for a while. I wouldn't want to go out in the garage to work on my own projects or work on something for someone else.
Finally I had a talk with the wife (and kids) and we've come to the conclusion that I need to invest a little in the home shop. It was a hard sell at 1st with the wife but in the end I think it will be better for me mentally and emotionally and if I can make a few dollars back, financially
Basically this is my public apology for anyone interested in an emblem and I have let you down by not getting back to you or delivering (for the record I have never received funds and not delivered a part)

A great post Mike.
Posted by: Mueller Jun 14 2023, 07:40 AM
Picked this up on Monday, 550 lbs and my back is still feeling it today.
Took 30 seconds to load it on the trailer with a fork lift and an hour by self using an engine hoist.
Had to take the spindle off to repair some hoses and make room for the slings
Neat little machine, cast iron frame with a 24,000 rpm water cooled spindle.
Runs on LinuxCNC which is an open source software.
Hope to be making chips this weekend.

Chinese base machine with Taiwanese linear rails and ballscrews.
Full CNC control so the computer will control the speeds and feds and has a DRO.
My lathe is all manual with hand cranks and that has DRO.
I'm looking forward to doing some 3D machining which this should be ideal at.

2.2kW 3 phase AC spindle.
Manual tool change, ER20 collets. I would love to upgrade it to automatic tool changer spindle but not sure if I'll go that route or not.

Hi Mike, could I possibly order an emblem for my blue 914 build that's in the works. Would like it to read "914-4 VW (logo)-2.3S". Ok without VW logo if that's a stretch. Please advise on payment.
THX
