From Perry:

Thanks for the interest! Yes, I do make the "Umbrella Cover" for 914's and 911 Targa. It is $110 shipped to continental US addresses. It's a great assessory for your 914, and solves two major 914 issues, leaking and sunlight. You can place an order by calling 800-867-4712, or PayPal to this address. Please be sure to include a UPS'able address or correct Postal address.

The covers are in stock and will ship as soon as payment is secured. Please let me know if I can help with any other Porsche parts needs. I have most everything you'll need for a six conversion in stock, as well as factory parts. Thanks for the interest, and please feel free to contact me,

Just got a new batch ready to go for summer! Price is still $110 shipped to you (continental US, e-mail me for out of country shipping).

One of the best things you can get for your 914! Keeps the cockpit cool and dry. Cheaper than a new set of weather seals. 100's of satisfied 914'ers.

What's the material used? And how well do they stay on in windy conditions?

Thanks,
Eric

The material is a polyester coated fabric, and is used for marine tops, so it's waterproof.

I've got several covers in west Texas where the wind blows almost constantly. The cover attaches to the car with sewn in bungee cords and plastic hooks. As shown in the pictures in this thread.

FYI? I like to lift the wiper arms before putting on the cover, it gives it a little extra hold in front.

Eric

No, I installed the rack 180 degrees from correct position, so I just had them park on the right side. Too much of a PITA to change that thing.

Just got my cover, excellent quality....time to move the 914 out to the front yard and bring the 911 back into the garage where it belongs , hahahaha

I think Perry may be one of those guys that doesn't visit the board but once every few days at best. Try sending him an email instead Jim. He's a pretty good guy and I don't think he's ognoring you.

That's why I prefer emails to PMs myself.

Price has gone up a little to $115. Still one of the best investments you can make for your 914! boldblue.gif

Posted by: STL914 Sep 15 2006, 07:03 PM

$115.00? Good Lord, that's a lot of money!

Just kidding. av-943.gif

I bought one from Perry several years ago and it is THE best accessory I bought for my car. In fact, it outlasted my 74 and has moved on to my "new" 72.

Another happy customer here, much easier to use this when going somewhere with the threat of rain. I love mine, have had it over a year.

Hey wouldnt these work great to keep the ARIZONA 105 degree heat/SUN out too when u park it, who needs rain???

Posted by: turboturtle May 5 2009, 12:56 PM

I feel very lucky to have been gifted Five plus years ago with one of your Umbrella's. My Ex GF ordered one for her 74' LE and my 73' 2.0 S. It is starting to get a little stiff, but it has seen more than it's fare share of the elements.
Mine has never blown off or even had a corner come loose.
The quality and construction are second to none.

I can give you my word that this Umbrella has been the single best investment for my car. I thank Laurie for that!

I can and will happily order a new one as my car comes closer to being back on the road. If I don't need it yet I'll put it back until I do.

My personal thanks for thinking of us and filling a much needed void. My hats off to you Perry. I feel forever indebted to you.

I bought one last year and I use it everyday at work. Great product. Keeps the UVs from destroying my interior and keeps it cool inside even in the middle of the summer. Takes about 30 seconds to install or remove.

Posted by: jim_hoyland May 22 2009, 10:33 PM

I've been using mine for 2 1/2 years too ! A great investment, even for hot weather, you can roll the windows down with the cover on. These covers are very well made and will probably outlast the car ...smile.gif

It really does help that too. It's the secondary reason for the cover.

Talk of the unbrella at MUSR last week pointed me to the info here. Several of the big motor bunch commented they would get one if it had a 'flap' on the back to cover the engine lid??? Possibility? Thanks Bill

Posted by: 9146986 Oct 20 2010, 07:47 AM

Stock of material is limited, as the material I've been using is getting discontinued and hard to get.

The only color I've been able to get is WHITE.

As of Oct 10, I have nine (9) covers available on a first come, first served basis.

Posted by: 9146986 Nov 9 2010, 06:46 AM

Eleven covers in stock today. The last batch sold out in less than two weeks!

I don't know how much longer the white material will be available, but it's the same type as gray in the pictures, the gray is NLA.

DON'T WAIT!

Perry,

Sent you an email.

The Umbrella definitely works and is a necessary need for the 914 owner. Great for sunny as well as rainy weather.

ALSO, WORK GREAT FOR CARS ON JACK STANDS! LOL!

Are these still in production? I'd like one if so

Posted by: 9146986 Sep 3 2012, 01:55 PM

Hey Guys! Thanks for all the inquiries. I'm in the process of sourcing a new material.

The vinyl coated material that I've used for years has been discontinued and the only color left in stock is the white that I've used for the past couple years. Functionally the gray and white are equal, esthetically not as much. Gray just works better with all colors that white.

I should have samples by the end of this week, and I'll post the info as it's available.

Thanks. biggrin.gif

Got samples last week, and the exterior is perfect, but the side that touches the car is too rough and will scratch paint.

It looks like it's going to be white only for the foreseeable future.

I should have covers in hand in about two weeks.

Perry's new covers are awesome. I think I was one of the first people to have one in the new material. My car has no windows and stays outside 100% of the time and I still have not gotten a drop inside the car. Still wonder why Porsche didn't offer something like this when they were still selling these cars. Great product, and a great guy.

I am considering one of these for my track car that has no side windows. Any experience using this for a car that is being towed? Did it keep dry inside? Would it scratch the paint?

Posted by: Cuda911 Nov 1 2014, 12:00 AM

How's the fit when the targa top is off? Do the bungees hold it tight enough?

Posted by: dlkawashima Nov 1 2014, 01:57 PM

Sorry for the messy garage but here's the cover in place without the targa top. You can see that it sags a bit in the middle but it's not bad at all. You can hook the bungee cords to whatever slot in your wheels that you like, so there should be no problem getting a tight fit.

Any chance you might make a run out of regular car cover type material such as the super nice Silver guard? The heavy plastic while fully weather proof is a bit like a plastic tarp and heavy.

Living in sunny CA would love a fabric version for primarily sun protection.

So let me get this straight, you state on a vendors page about looking into having these made. Why would you do this to a fellow member and a vendor who has been making these for years? Cuda, you didn't cross the line you did a triple jump over it.

Would you consider making a batch in lightweight nylon for people who only want one as a sunshade?

I need one too...

I'm checking to see if I can have some made up in a lightweight waterproof nylon. Will post once I have details.

How many would be interested?

So let me get this straight, you state on a vendors page about looking into having these made. Why would you do this to a fellow member and a vendor who has been making these for years? Cuda, you didn't cross the line you did a triple jump over it.

Andy

Ah, ooops...I didn't really read the rest of this thread... just skimmed through it saw a bunch of people saying they want one, and no recent replies, so figured I'd see about getting it done myself to fill a void. Didn't mean to tromp on toes. So, instead, let me see about ordering one from Perry.

I will check into waterproof nylon, but I doubt if there's any nylon with a good UV rating.

Thanks, Perry. I looked online, and it looks like there are some good outdoor-rated UV-rated nylon materials for about $5-6 / yard. Seems to me that the umbrella covers would then easily fit into a small stuff-sack.

Wasn't trying to swipe any business from you, didn't realize you were still selling them. PM me your address, and I'll send you one of the 914 hats I'm making, for free, OK? They should be ready in about two weeks.

I received Perry's cover a couple weeks ago- it isn't any bigger than the service covers offered by Garold when folded up. Very nice quality and will be very easy to bring while traveling.

Regards,
Andrew

Yes, I'll have another batch of the regular heavy duty covers, and a small test run of lightweight nylon. Between shipping time and my own schedule, it will be about four weeks. I'll post something on this thread, as well as pm everyone who posted they want a cover.

New to this forum, expanding my horizons from Pelican with my new baby (tangerine 71) These are AWESOME! Will need one for my 914 that I am picking up next week. Couple questions, do you have them in the reflective silver (like OEM outdoor)? Also, do you have the ability to make them for a 944 and a 911. The rain is not as big an issue for me in AZ as the sun. Putting factory cover on every time it they are going to sit outside for more than a couple minutes is getting old. Each of them, has a perfect dash...aim to keep it that way. :-)

Thanks!

PM's sent. I've got 9 of the regular heavy duty material Umbrella Covers in stock and ready to ship. We are in the process of doing a few from tent fabric and possibly rip-stop nylon. The tent fabric and rip-stop is not UV stable, so it would be best for occasional use only, but lighter weight. The rip-stop isn't really waterproof either.

Price is $130 shipped to continental US address.

Just in time for Christmas! 6 left in stock.

lighter weight, water proof??? Lighter?
less cost???

Perry,

I've owned a regular umbrella cover for a long time; it is a must for outside parking. Since retiring, the car sits in the garage and needs a very lightweight dust cover. I like the idea of the rip stop nylon, please pm me with pricing and availability

Just received the new umbrella cover, this is so well made and weighs a pound lighter than my original umbrella purchased some years ago.
Pics of the new (brown) cover and a shot of my original grey cover ( still in excellent condition, and looking for a new home)

Hello, I am looking for a 914 umbrella car cover. Are they still available?

Posted by: IronHillRestorations Mar 2 2020, 08:40 PM

I don't have any on hand at the moment. I'll do another run in a month or so, if you can wait. I'll shoot you a PM when I have them in hand.

I'll probably make a pre-order post.

I'm also considering a limited run with a premium material that I've found.
