FS: 914-6 GT Double Engine Grill
Replica of the original double grilled 914-6GT engine lid. It is made with original grill material. The cross brace can be lighten or removed (your choice - the lid is a bit more structurally rigid if the cross brace is only lightened - with the cross brace removed, the lid is lighter but the lid tends to flex and may not fit flush against the trunk when closed). The latch and torsion bars are left intact. The lids are painted semi-gloss black (similar to satin black).
The lid is $500 with a core lid (or $550 without a core) plus shipping/packing - cash, cashiers check or Paypal (add 3% for Paypal) from you. Your core lid(s)/grill(s) needs to be in very nice condition (lid has minimal coats of paint, no dents, nor rust and the mesh on grill has no holes nor deformities). If you are providing a stock lid(s)/grill(s), you are responsible for their packing/shipping to me. You can use the box that I send your GT lid in and, upon receipt and if in usable condition, I will refund $50.
More pics and info available upon request, Thanks

Any other pictures? what kind of grill material?
I'm fairly sure its two stock lids welded together.
Rob is correct, I do use two stock grills. But they are not welded together, They are attached in a similar fashion as the original with speed nuts and the addition of pop rivets.
Here is a close up picture of a section of the lid:

do you also have an extended rain guard thingie like the stock decklid has, or do we have to somehow fabricate our own?
no rain guard !!!!
the purpose of this lid is to improve cooling (which it does)
nice quality work if I may add, I don't have one, but I picked one up for a customer and was pleased with the lid.
Mike, thanks for the kudos. The grills are still available.
Sergio,
Are your GT engine grills still available? What is the cost? Is the cost for one outright or do we need to supply a core grill? What forms of payment do you accept?
Thanks
Mark
Received my GT grill/engine lid to day. Looks great, thanks Sergio, your the man. As my car comes together I will post some pictures of my 6 conversion and your lid.
Thanks,
Mack
Sergio does great work. You can check out his engine lid on my car.
Now I just need to try it with my new oil cooler setup at the track.
Just make a couple of more of my GT grills. They are packed and ready to ship.
Sergio Are you still looking for grills?
CCLINPD
CCLINPD,
Currently, I have plenty of grills and lids. But, I am open to offers that would involve one or several of my GT lids.
Just wanted to add to this forum, that I recieved a GT lid from Sergio and it is first rate. Fit perfectly, went on in minutes. It just completes the look for my 2.0 with steel flares. Great job Sergio. Talk soon.
Cheers,Dion
OK Dion....you baited me....now we have to see a pic of your car!!!
Yeah, I'm waiting to see a picture of his car too. He is probably going to have me wait until June when I go out there for the Porsche Parade.
Gentlemen, I would love to share a pic of my pride and joy,but as I keep spending money on her I've yet to join the digital age. I'll have to borrow a dig camera or buy a scanner. Sergio, I'll try not too wait that long to procure one. Nathan- Nice collection. I also have a Audi A6 Avant and a 92 VW GTI.
Cheers all,Dion

I was able to get a large stock of grills. So, I have several GT lids made and ready to ship.
Asking price?
Please read intitial posting for pricing.
When you install the GT grill, do you change the two side solid pieces at either end of the front part--the sides ? Maybe a picture of how it turns out would help
Jim,
You just change the lid. It is held on at the front by two 10mm bolts.
I am asking about the pieces to the right and left of the grill up against the glass and alonside the pillar . I'll take a picture later.
Thanks Aaron, went over to Joe's and looked at his. Bringing my new grill over to Bar-B-Que saturday to install if it doesn't rain.
My replica GT lids are still available.
I am now making my replica GT lids with or without the cross brace. When left in, the cross brace lis lightened via a series of holes.

What a great XMas gift.
Sergio,
Sent you an email. I would like to get my lid done or buy/exchange.
Sergio,
I would like to buy a GT grill without the cross brace. Do you have any available right now? Please call or email.

Yes a nice piece. The factory 916 double grille is actually cruder! The german chicken wire really looks cheap and it is installed with screws!
George,
I agree, the factory ones were inddeed an odd assortment that were made with what they had on had at the time. A few years back when Porsche was the featured marque at the Monterey Historics, there were six factory GTs - each lid was different and some indeed were a bit rough.
I was able to get a stock of grills. I have GT lids with and without the lightened cross-brace made and realy to ship.
Sergio
Larry,
Thanks for the positive feedback.
Sergio
Gentlemen,
I'm still making them if you are in need (or want) one. Thanks
Sergio
Just received my second GT Grill from Sergio and once again, I was not dissappointed.
Thanks Serg,
Larry Caulder
Hi Sergio,
No one has sent in a picture of your grill work. Here is how it looks on 914-6 conversion. Carbon fiber rear lid sets it off.
Mack
Sergio, i have my original lid, can i get one of yours? and can i see a pic of it before i by it? Do you take paypal and is there any discount if i send you my original lid back in the same box when you send it to me?
thanks,
Chris
Price? + shipping to Chandler, az 85224?
I've started making a very light weight version of the GT lid -
no cross-brace/hinges/latch/torsion bars. Mounts racer style with pins.
Sergio, I'd like one with no crossbrace. Ship to will be 46219.
thanks!

Hi Sergio,
Here is a couple of picks of your grillwork and how nice it looks for all you 914 guys who are thinking about a GT grill.
Attached image(s)
Pictures seem clear enough that you can see the contrast with the carbon fiber lid.

These things are very sweet! Nicely done, well packed, quick shipped.
"Racers" GT lid: now available:
No cross brace/torsion bars/hinges/latches - weight down to 8.8lbs.
How much for a core engine lid in nice shape.
I wish the one I got looked that good!!!!
My replica GT engine lids are still available.
I have several made, both with and without the lightened cross brace, ready to ship.
Still available
Payment sent via Paypal. Cant wait!
Sergio,
I recently bought a 914 with one of your engine lids installed and must say it is very nice indeed. The prior owner did not utilize the stock hood springs and they are no where to be seen.
Do you recommend any other means of opening the hood that does not require trying to squeeze your fingers in the gap between the hood and the trunk? Have you ever seen a gas hood strut installed like camp 914 does on the front and rear lids?
Thanks
Rob
robrose426@att.net
Rob - PM sent.
For all others, my GT lids are still available.
Thanks - Sergio
Looking at the pics above, are there two rectangular areas not covered by screen, on both ends of the foward most grill - next to the window, or do those areas just look not screened? If so what about infiltration of leaves and debris?
Those are the body-colored parts that are wider than the engine lid. No chance of debris getting through.
Still making them - get yours NOW!
Here is my lid from Sergio.
It is rather lovely
Nice looking car!

After 15 years and 117 sold, I'm still making and sell the GT lids - thanks guys (and gals).
Congratulations! Sergio
Way to stick with it, and supporting all the wonderful 914 out there.
Craftsman like you, keep the 914 drive alive.
I just noticed over 22,000 views for this vendors one item.
Garland,
And would you believed 124 GT lids made and sold over the past 15 years?
Last years was my best ever - 20 made and sold. So, let me know if your 914 is ready for one - thanks
4 so far this year - I can make one for your teen too.
May i suggest to the lid builders out there to slot the two holes in the lid's mounting brackets / cut with a high speed wheel or hack saw if properly secured. This makes taking off, removing and or re-fitment a breeze / no fumbling around upside down with wrench, washers, bolts dropping down the oil tower or into your open and unstuffed carb intakes.......
This simple little alteration makes a one-man task out of the lid refit and becomes so simple that i usually take the lid off for tuning, cleaning, etc. My GT lid makes it only easier to see where to poke the slot into the bolt already installed on the hinge receiver.
I have cut the slots on the mounting brackets For the the buyers that had requested me to do so. But in most applications the lid is mounted and seldom removed.
I've got one each made with the lightened cross brace and without. Great Xmas gift. Thanks
I have lightened cross brace GT lids with or without slotted mounting brackets made and ready to ship - thanks:
Still available - thanks
I'll take one with no cross brace (if you're still making them)... PM sent
Has anyone posted a photo of the grille with the lights added or have one they can post?
What lights?
My bad - post typo corrected. Here's some pics of one of my G lids with the "lightened" cross brace:

Thank you Bill. Yours is the 200th GT engine lid that I’ve make over these 20 years.
Running really low on donor grills. So......
If you've been thinking about getting one of my GT lids, do it soon. The grills are getting harder to source and shipping is getting prohibitive.
Thanks
PM sent.
GoT one make for you - PM sent.
Thanks
Sergio

Just acquired 10 more engine lid grills so I can make 5 more GT lids.
The grills are going scarce, so if you want one of my GT lids, now the time to contact me. Not sure how many got I can make. Thanks
Happy New Year all. Down to just a few more GT lids before I run out of both grills and frames. Once those are gone, if you want one made, you'll have to ship me your stock engine lid and a 2nd grill.
Thanks and stay safe.
Just sold the last one I can make. I have a prepped frame but no more grills.
So....... if you have lids w/ grills and or just grills, I'm in the market - thanks
Sergio
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=1219 A few potential leads? You might have to start raising your prices.

Thanks for the heads up. I've contacted the local one.
Unfortunately, shipping a complete lid is running between $35-$50. So I'm usually just hunting for the grills if shipping is involved.
Imay indeed have to raise prices if I have to pay the price some seller are asking. Especially since Im probably the only person who buys engine lids.
I've often said that you could roll a 914 off a cliff and the only part that won't be damaged would be the engine lid - the most protected part of the car - ;>)
Down to one prepped frame and a single grill.
So….. if you want what could be my last GT lid, you’ll need to provide a grill.
Thanks for a great run: 217 GT lids over 23 yrs. Thanks
#218 made & shipped.
No more lids nor grills. So you’ll need to to provide a complete lid and 2nd grill.
Thanks for your support.
Just scored 4 lids and 3 grills. So back to making GT lids - thanks
With no stock frame left, core exchange is required. You ship your stock lid to me in same box as I shipped your GT lid. One I receive it, I’ll refund your $50 core deposit. Thanks
Just sold two - one to z Belgium and the other to Japan. Have two GT lids completed and available w/o core exchange. Thanks
I have one GT lid w/ lightened cross brace completed and available preferably w/ core exchange. Thanks
Yes I do. PM sent - thanks
