Hey morphenspectra,

Is there any way that you can combine this:

With this:

Maybe mount the sub on the side. I love bass, but I also really love the center console. If they were together it would be awesome!

Posted by: kenpolives May 29 2004, 07:58 AM

I'd be in for a center console with the guages and a subwoofer out the side...

Would the magnet of the sub have any effect on the gauges?

Posted by: AZ914 Jun 9 2004, 05:37 PM

I agree with Ken. I think I would buy the sport console w/SUB if it worked out. Don't even need the guages.

I'd hate to trash the original console I have now but would love the BASS. aktion035.gif

i recently purchased a pair of speaker pods that came loaded with blaupunkt speakers. they look great, and i can actually hear the music. even with the top off. a quality product that i highly recomend. nice work james.

Pictures from a stereo install I did for a customer. The only 914 Appearance and Performance parts are the speaker pods. The center console is stock 914.

I received my console with the custom sub and it looks great. I will have a amp hooked up within the next week. Installation however appears to be a little tough. There is no top mounting bracket like the factory unit so how did you install it for your customers?

Posted by: McMark Jul 3 2004, 12:45 PM

Center console is stock 914.

Posted by: kenpolives Jul 10 2004, 11:56 AM

I have the aftermarket console with the sub installed, IT SOUNDS GREAT. I installed it today along with a nice 4 Channel amp. I also bought the aftermarket kicker panel speaker "pods" and together the sound is wonderful. Make sure the amp you get is adjustable and when they tune the system you won't beleive it. Pics coming soon.

Can you post a pic of the black carpet set and tan carpet set installed.

Ken,

Where did you mount your AMP?

Ok, My battery is in the front trunk so installing the amp was a piece of cake. Make sure you leave enoughtwire so you can remove the board to get your spare out.

So helpful notes for the future. 1) Install the unit from the pass side after removing the knee pad. 2) Unscrew the guage panel section, use velcro or leave as is so you can get to the wiring. The knee pad holds that piece nice and tight. There is a mounting bracket offered by the sell that fits perfect. Without taking the front guage panel of you have no chance of installing the unit (with the sub in) Did I say the sub sounds GREAT.

Its Centered on the hole.
The polished portion of the housing is 3" diameter.  Removing the top collar of the shifter (4 bolts) will allow the console plate (once opened to 3") to fit tight to the polished part of the housing.

James, uh...here is James reply ! Looks like 3".

James,

Since you make carpet kits for both the interior and the
trunk floors, have you ever considered a carpet kit to do the entire trunks like the 916s were done?

You could offer the pre-cut peices in either charcoal or black to match you other kits.

Possible??

James,
Thanks for my new speaker pods, they're great! IPB Image i told the girlfriend about them and she got them for me for X-mas. I have one question, though. Do you have any silver speaker rings for your speakers? They were offered with them from the dealer, so I was wondering if you had a set that I could trade out.
Thanks again man,
Mike

Posted by: Dr Evil Jan 7 2005, 02:34 PM

Eh, its all good. If I really want to do it I can paint. My girlfriend was insistant on my leaving public positive feed back for you (as if i wasn't gonna already). She was very pleased with the transaction.

James,

Thanks for the great products...finished with installing my new system...apline stereo, alpine amp 350w, alpine 6.5" speakers, and a 8" polk audio dual voice coil sub. I cut a hole in my factory console(painful) and installed the sub. I re-enforced the console with hardboard and lined everysurface with dynamat. also installed wedges behind guage panel so that no air can escape from sub box. Looks and sounds awesome.

Check it out!!!

Thanks,
Drue

That is beautiful work. Makes me wonder if I'm doing the right thing by going to a black interior! What color car is that going into?

Posted by: larryp Jan 25 2005, 09:56 AM

It's going into a black car, with black seats and carpet. Currently the interior has a tan firewall, that is soon to be replaced with black carpet also.

Thanks James.

Posted by: KickinRocks77 Jan 31 2005, 12:57 AM

Hey James,
What do you think about a center console with a small 6.5" LCD headrest monitor on the front and a sub in the side???? (when you get back in march of course)

Ford.

Posted by: larryp Feb 1 2005, 07:18 AM

James-

For all those who wanted to see the interior installed, here it is. It uses your door panels (great fit, really nice job) and console with sub; also the center cushion you made to match and the firewall carpet kit. The carpet and the Sparcos are black; the rest is beige trimmed in black. Believe it or not, the CAR is actually finished (um, until I replace the dash itself... well, and the rockers)

Let me know when the door pockets are available. Thanks for all.

Best, LP

The items in our store will be available while we are off, and will also be shipped in a timely manner, an not relisted until we return. So if you ordered from us, your stuff will be shipped before we start or R&D vacation.

Posted by: CptTripps Feb 5 2005, 09:25 PM

Here is my shameless ass-kissing for the day...

I received the door panels today and am BLOWN AWAY by the quality. I was expecting nice, and got OUTSTANDING. I can't imagine why anyone would waste the time/energy on anything BUT these. If you are going to replace your door panels, BUY THESE! Well worth the price, and they'll NEVER get soaked and musty. The glasswork is clean, and the upolstry is quality stuff. I can hardly wait to finish the interior now.

Thanks for the fantastic product. I'm available for a referance if you ever need one.

sound testing went well,ok the good the bad the ugly.the volume was off for the 8 inch, but can be easily fixed.i fitted the box with a dual wond 6.5 and WOW, this is the best sounding box i have made for the 6.5 i couldnt believe how good it sounded.Did a volume check and found out i need to add some space to it for the 8,but luckly the volume for a 8" is about close to the volume for a 10" biggrin.gif .but i will build two models one thats for the larger speakers & one thats for the 6.5.with the smaller of the two being more "stocksized".the prototype will go on e bay in a day or two. i will build two or three more of this type then change over to the model that dosent have the "ear"off to the side.and also start building the big box style, will post pictures of them when the molds are finished this upcoming week

Whats next?you ask, custom door panels, front rear bumpers,LE spoiler(that fits & looks right)bumpertops, carbonfiber, six aircleaners(rain hats),and injected plastics ohmy.gif .we have alot more products to offer here at appearance & performance.

This is a very nice reproduction of the factory LE airdam. Unlike others that are being sold, this one has the same dimentions as the factory airdam, and all mounting points line up correctly. The one pictured was constructed with black gel coat and polished and ready to mount. There is a second model avail, that is white primered gel coat so you can paint this item.

Glad to see you got the property you wanted. You make "killer parts"". I will definitely need some over the next couple of years for the -6 I am building. Keep up the good work.

Posted by: RickS Apr 19 2006, 10:26 PM

When are you planning in breaking into the 911 market? Your work on 914 parts are nothing less than phenominal, and would be well received by the 911 group. Early door pockets (both types) 67 - 73 would be snapped up in a second if priced about half of the current going rate - $300 per piece. Your speaker set-up would also be ideal for 911s which lack the space and for people who do not want to cut up their interiors. Your consoles would also work nicely for 911s lacking a good subwoofer and the guage we all want but are missing - Volt. PS I just bought a 2.0 already equiped with your sub-console and front mount speakers and I am very impressed.

Hmmm ... I just checked your ebay store and could not find a listing for the side pods with the blaupunkt speakers. Just listings for the 3 piece kit (2 sides and the console/sub), the panels only(no speakers), and a cut it yourself kit with speakers. Is the finished version no longer available?

Hmmm . . .

I still don't see any listing in ebay for the just the speaker pods(without sub) with the blaupunkt speakers mounted that I hear so much about on the forum. I DO see them listed with some other speakers in an unfinished condition, however, I didn't really want to go through the cutting, painting, assembly, etc. process. In one of your current listings it was mentioned that there was a listing with the finished speaker pods available for $120. This is what I am looking for. Could you just sell this to me or do I really need to wait until it comes up on ebay again. Do you do any direct sales, or do I HAVE to go through ebay?

Thanks,
Steve

->?

Posted by: morphenspectra Jun 9 2006, 11:45 PM

Hiedi wrights these for me and does not always wright it exactly the way i say things. we started using diamond punch vinyl for a period looking door panel. no 914 ever came with diamond punch vinyl.we now have the correct vinyl for all years made.although we do not use the leather crease vinyl for the 70-71 unless asked for.
70 -71 plain vinyl
72-74 basket weave
75,75 square basket weave
and i have done a entire interiors with diamond punch and it looked great. where they replaced all the correct weaves with diamond punch.
i hope this awnsers your questions

being a build to order company all of those are sold and left today. there was a box in the shipping room with 12 more pairs in them. that are also gone with two extra pairs that are for display & photos for the web master that will get them for free for photographing them. you can get a pair of raw ones in a few weeks (un painted & uncut) if i have to cut them you might as well have me paint them cause any prep to the panel makes them 100.00. so if you do alittle work you save money . we will not be working again till wed and i only have three pairs of door panels to put out. then im off (yeah right) for a week.

being a build to order company all of those are sold and left today. there was a box in the shipping room with 12 more pairs in them. that are also gone with two extra pairs that are for display & photos for the web master that will get them for free for photographing them. you can get a pair of raw ones in a few weeks (un painted & uncut) if i have to cut them you might as well have me paint them cause any prep to the panel makes them 100.00. so if you do alittle work you save money . we will not be working again till wed and i only have three pairs of door panels to put out. then im off (yeah right) for a week.

Hello,
I was wondering if you plan on making floor mats to match the carpet kits you sell. I am currently looking to purchase a set to match the carpet kit I got from you months ago.

I just realized that our price list was very outdated. As far as consoles, they all have been discontinued. Emblem retainers and window cranks have also been discontinued. Dash gauge plates will also be discontinued, there is one left in our ebay store and when its gone there will be no more. We are making way for our new line of products. I'm sorry some products have gone up in price, as our prices have gone up multiple times over the last few years and it's something we just couldn't avoid.

Question, what's the best way to enlarge an existing speaker hole?
I am finally getting around to installing my speaker pods but need a larger diameter hole. Should I just use a hack-saw with a metal blade?

Thanks for suggestions.

Posted by: morph Sep 12 2007, 11:47 PM

there are many ways to do it but my fav is to use a jig saw with a fine metal blade.works rather well.dremel works too but alittle dusty.

Hey james, name's Steve!
pretty new to the forum and the 914 world alike and have seen your stuff on ebay, didn't know it was a forum member! i really love the pass floorboard sub boxes you got going!

I read through the thread and saw that you need a website, but it seems you have one up. I've done some custom web design work and some personal stuff. If you ever want/need a site makeover, let me know! Maybe we can trade for some parts or for fiberglassing lessons lol! ..or feel free to disregard all-together lol.

Hi. First and foremost I want to thank you for offering all of your really cool products for the 914! Gotta keep these cars going and you are to be commended.

I have a question about the front trunk kit. I want to buy a carpeted board so I can strap stuff to it with bungee cords and keep mine intact for posterity.

I see you have the two piece kit, board and carpet piece for 40 bucks. Then the description says the perlon kit is 40 and isn't bonded but won't fray.

Does that mean the carpeting is not bonded to the board (i.e. "bond it yourself")? Am I correct in assuming that 40 dollars gets you the piece of carpeting to line the back of the front trunk AND a board with carpeting glued to it?

Thanks for clarifying.

Due to the increases at the Post Office, our shipping procedures are changing. Since I'm finding myself eating a huge ammount of shipping to the east coast and midwest I am doing shipping quotes based on area code. I will be working this week to come up with shipping quotes for usps priority to all of their shipping zones. I will also be offering UPS Ground shipping as well to hopefully save some of you some dough. Anything that is less than 1 cubic foot in size will not be changing.

Hi James and Hiedi! I just bought one of the older style consoles like this:
IPB Image

I believe it was yours, it had never been installed (bought it from Ferg) I was just curious as to why it has 4 wires for speaker input? (sorry but I am an audio-idiot)? Thanks!

nice to see those consoles still around aktion035.gif
that woofer has a dual coil, you pump right and left channels into one speaker.
bass is usually nondirectional and also uniformed in left and right channels( usually I said )
so you can run left and right channels into that speaker
to install that you need to remove your lower dash pad. then install the console then put your lowerdash pad back on.

This doesn't apply to ebay purchases and olny applies to our regular items that are listed on our website. I also updated our price list, I realized that things were not correctly priced. I am trying to get people to buy direct if possible since ebay fees are always increasing and putting financial strain on small internet businesses. There is also a $15 discount for some interior upholstery services (seats, dash, backpad)

I spent the week adding a shopping cart to our website. You can simply check out wtih the items of your choice and pay conveniently with paypal. If you don't have or use paypal then add the items to your cart, when you are done choose the "view cart" option at the bottom of the page, print it out and send your order via snail mail. I am still trying to find a way to add a coupon code so members can easily get their 5% discount. We have also added a Gift Certificate option for those of you who will be wanting those this year. We sell a few of them every year around christmas, so this will make it easier.

We have two new products that we introduced. The first is a 2 gauge subwoofer console that comes complete with 2 gauges and the senders. The second new product is basketweave seat cushion recover kit. They are currently listed on ebay and I will post lots of pics on Monday.

Posted by: morph Oct 13 2009, 06:02 PM

Since a common custom request for our sub console was to have 2 gauges added to the top and the sub mounted lower on the face we decided to offer it as one of our regular products. It comes complete with 2 nitrous gauges and senders. The sub is enclosed seperate from the gauges to make for easier acess to gauges and installation.

The seat cushion recover kit is the second new product. It is sewn with the factory basketweave for the cushions that were in the 72-74 cars. The basketweave has a thin layer of foam also sewn under the upholstery. The kit can take a little patience to install. The recover kit comes with both passenger and drivers side cushion covers.Attached Image

You had mentioned in a previous post that it is difficult to install but another poster said it wasn't. I know this is subjective but how hard is it to install ? Do you see any issues with my plan for installation ? Thanks

also, do you have a vinyl or carpet material to cover the back pad, i have different seats and will not be putting the stock foam pading over them but rather would like to cover as is.
Lastly, why all the circle cut outs? other than the attachement points and trunk lid release, and light, can the panels be left solid?

p.s. - i am enjoing the center console u made 4 me - thanks!

Very nice looking product! I presume it's only a matter of time before you reproduce the padding and surface vinyl to factory specs as a complete package with this fiberglass backing?

Either way I'll likely buy one down the road... the backing on my original 72' backpad is slowly crumbling each time I take it in and out, plus 2 of the metal clips that secure it beneath the window are less than sturdy!

On a side note just curious if you got around to shipping out my big order of the RS door panels and all the other goodies? I'm eager to see what sort of sketches or ideas you've come up with for the custom center console as well?

Let me know! popcorn[1].gif

Posted by: John Aug 18 2010, 09:18 PM

I don't know why I waited so long.

I bought a pair of the fiberglass speaker pods that hold 6.5" round speakers.

The fiberglass is top notch. The fit is perfect. The original screws lined up without any fuss.

They look so much better than my 20 year old hack jobs that I can hardly believe the difference.

I couldn't be happier.

Okay, here it goes. We are in the process of streamlining to better serve customers. We are not going to be offering consoles for a little while, These are all handmade and very time consuming to make. As of next week all parts will be offered as unfinished and you will have to sand and paint them. If you have already ordered these parts then you will get them as ordered.

Phil,
Here are photos of your backpad. It turned out really good but it was hard to get good photos of all the nice contours on it. For those of you who don't know what is going on in the photo, it is a custom backpad with a thin layer of foam with vinyl over the top of it, it makes for a nice low profile backpad.

Barking up the wrong tree...

Try Getty Design for the CF Lids. About $900 each.

No one is making new targa roofs but you can get a Saratoga Reproduction from 914Rubber.Com. The Saratoga Roof was a dark glass roof you could see through... Otherwise, just like stock.

UPDATE: looks like he's having email trouble (from his EBay store)
Phone:(503)551-6191

e-mail: hjhl@worldnet.att.net

Our Website: www.914ap.com

We don't always have things listed on ebay, If you have questions about any of our products then feel free to email or call.

We try to answer all e-mails and some don't make it to us, or replies don't make it to customers, if you need info and aren't getting response, please call the number above. It can be frustrating for both of us if your emails aren't getting through.

At&t got rid of their worldnet service so our new email is hjhl@att.net....we also have that email forwarded to our current email and we have been having some problems getting emails from people.

Okay, We have changed some manufacturing process on the following items and it has decreased the prices of these items.
Unfinished door pockets are now $59
Le spoilers are now $95
Door cores are $90 a pair.

One item has increased due to our upholstery cost increasing and that is the seat upholstery components.

Upholstery kit for one pair of seats is $345 shipped
Seat cushion covers are $75 for one and $125 for a pair.

There has been some question about pricing on our items. The current pricing for everything is on www.914ap.com. This thread started in 03. Our cost has gone up significantly since then so pricing on many items in this thread are not current. I will be editing the prices out of this thread over the next few days. I am sorry for any confusion this has caused. I would again like to thank everyone for thier support of 914ap over the years.

Thank you,
Hiedi

James is a difficult guy to get ahold of at best. I'll contact him to see how he wants to handle this, but I have the pillar gage part and I'll have more speaker pods Monday. So, I could fill this for him.
