914World.com _ Originality and History _ Deducts for windshield

Posted by: Kansas 914 Mar 4 2011, 02:08 PM

After 14 months at the paint shop - as the car was being delivered to me yesterday - the windshield blew out on the highway. It was a beauty - and original.

Thread here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=116291

I am having trouble sourcing a replacement - looking for a Sigla. What deducts can one expect for windshields?

I did a search buy didn't find an answer - sorry if it has been covered before.

Cheers!

I'd do whatever it takes to stay away from anything Chinese, and think it would be a significant deduct for concours, if a schooled judge is in place.

Frankly, I'd spend the extra bucks to stay original here.

Gorgeous paintjob! You can make up for some minor personal changes, but it's really tough to compete to win with aftermarket stuff. I still wish we had the days when the judges actually put hands on the cars - separated the wannabe's from the hardcore.

Thanks Pat.

I am with you. This car may never even see a judge - not many of those shows in Kansas - but if and when it ever goes up for sale (I have already owned it 32 years so it will probably be after I am gone) these things will count I hope.

Just trying to do it right as I can at this stage.

Cheers!

UPDATE:

My local Porsche dealer finally found one - but then asked - do you want clear or heat protected? He could not tell me the difference -same part number 2 different descriptions........

I think heat protected might be another name for the tint at the top?

What would be correct for 1972 - If I remember correctly it was clear.

Thanks in advance!

On my 72, and it was late production, the timted windshield was a component of the app grp. Only the windshield though.

Thanks Pat.

My '72 is early production that year (based on the brake calipers). It came with sail panel vinyl and fog lights but no console and it does have chrome bumpers.
