914World.com _ Originality and History _ More engine bay sound pad Questions

I have a 1973 with the sound pad on the bulkhead. There are tabs at the top that bend over the pad to secure the top edge of the pad below the window.

Q) Do the metal tabs get the black plastic covering or are the left painted metal?

(Mike) MGD stated in this thread ( http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=121637 ) that his car still had a couple covers on the pad holders. So, I'm going to add them and save some bandaids the next time I have to stuff my hand or arm near the back pad.
