Very early (left) has hand welds and different metal work. Also the pinching on the edge has a different pattern.

My guess would be vendor change or improved mfg. technique being applied. My early 70MY has the hand brazed seams with lumps and bumps. I thought they were all like that. Good observation !

Very interesting. Now that I think about it, yeah there were craftsman differences. Great catch!
