914World.com _ Originality and History _ Engine Sticker

I realize it's a terrible picture, but I'd love help trying to reproduce this decal that is on my 1.8 liter engine.Attached Image

if we can get up a group of 20 we can make it
we have the regular 1.7 1.8 valve adjust sticker along with the 2.0 but not this late 1.8 one

If somebody wants to send me a final copy of the graphic… I can print these on adhesive vinyl about 3mil for about $.79… Maybe sell for two bucks? I have ink that should hold up for 10 years or more.

The one on my ‘75 is not as legible...

Any luck with graphics? Just noticed mine has flaked off; used to be there...
Thanks!

George - Did anything ever develop with reproducing this sticker (late 1.8 tuneup sticker)? With folks really fixing up things lately, maybe could now get the 20 needed for a GB? Thanks!

Posted by: StarBear Apr 27 2020, 10:19 AM

OK; have cleaned it up as best I could (I'm not a graphic artist) and resized. Here are the Before and After images. Still need cleanup to show the valve clearance space, extend the divider line and define the top timing arrow more clearly, but almost there!
VG-914 has offered to print, although currently separated from his printer.
Haven't quite figured out how to add members' names/links into a forum post (have seen it done), so will PM you.
Onward!

Here it is! As best as I could do, but better and correct size (75mm x 40mm) per member Oakpark. Sending to VG-914 for vinyl printing, though may not be until July until he's reunited with his printer. Onward!

Well, I'm Virgo AND a recovering engineer, so speaks volumes about me! At least, at my age, I still remember some of these things (not so much about what I had for dinner last night, though...) beerchug.gif

Is you still have some time...

how about the periods in vor o. T.

Those are not arrows at the fan housing diagram. They are notches in the housing, which align with a mark on the fan.

Good spot, Jeff! Will work on it. Thanks!

OK; here's my next effort. How does this look @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=104 (not sure how the notches are supposed to look, so sort of guessed)?Attached Image

Nice photochop work.

You deleted the black marks on the fan (former arrows), but the marks are indicating where TDC is which s what you want to see with the strobe light.

Here's the next pass; will do timing light on mine to refresh my eyes/memory on how it's supposed to look. I think (?) I'm getting closer...

Posted by: StarBear May 3 2020, 09:33 AM

OK; I think I have it. Have added the decimal in front of 006" and cleaned up/mocked up the timing marks. The bottom one still looks odd (no separate notch horizontal line like the top, but that's what the original seems to look like). What do you think, @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=3236 , @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=12980 and @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=104 ?

One last set of touch-ups. If interested, also made a parallel one with double lines across the bottom timing mark to match the top, but don't think the original had it.Attached Image

Final tune up (pun intended) on the sticker image. Sent to member for printing!

Haven't seen or heard anything lately, so wondering if there's still any interest in pursuing this. If so, a) is the one shown above sufficient, or b) should I keep pursuing a more intensive cleanup as shown below (redid the letters, numbers and far right graphic)?
If b), then could use a bit of others' eyes to figure out what the graphic for the valve clearance should look like - sort of like two arrows showing the gap between two spacing lines?

Looking good. Obviously, as clear as it can be, but I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Posted by: davep May 19 2020, 02:08 PM

It does look pretty good. I think the more crisp it is the better; that is they way the originals were. I don't need the 1.8 since most of mine are 2.0, but I do have some NOS labels from 30 years ago. I think they are all in the parts list above.

@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=1244 Have any NOS 1.8L stickers? I'm having a hard time understanding the detailed lines, working off the wrinkled, dirty photo. Working off a fresh one would really help! Will PM you.

Posted by: davep May 21 2020, 09:14 PM

No, I do not have that decal.

Posted by: StarBear May 22 2020, 12:08 PM

OK, really getting closer (see photo). Question for @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=3236 @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=12980 and others: What to do with the three "blob" circles to the left of the dizzy - remove or keep? If keep, what are they supposed to look like? Can't tell from the original photo nor from looking at my actual one.

Posted by: StarBear May 23 2020, 08:04 AM

@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=1244 - I had an idea; if the base images are the same on the 2L sticker (see image above), could I buy one from you?
I'd then do a high-res scan (to get a good, clean and correct base), then overwrite the numbers and letters (which I've already done once, so could easily redo). This, I believe, would provide a clear, accurate reproduction of the 1.8L sticker.
If so, I'll PM you my home address.
Thanks.

DONE! piratenanner.gif Have created 3 versions, all at proper size (75mm x 40mm) - 1. Original; 2. Cleaned and 3. Restored. If anyone wants to print, just PM me with your email address and which file you'd like; I'll send the full file to you.
Here they are:
1. Original

2. Cleaned

3. Restored (Don't know why this is showing up in a slightly larger size)

Not perfect, but as I noted early on, I'm not a graphic artist and doubt folks could detect glitches in a rather small sticker, in a semi-dark engine compartment. Onward!
PS: @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=12980 if you print them, could you send me two?

Ah, yes - the clamps. Good catch. Deciding whether if the effort to attempt to draw them in or not.
