Hi Folks -
I'm trying to learn more about the history of my car, 9140430756.
Here's what I know so far:
1. The 1st prior owner is Rick Kikes; interestingly he's involved in drag racers and land speed record cars.
2. Mr. Kikes bought the car from Marlo Treit, another LSR guy, reportedly in about '96 or '97. This is where the trail runs cold. Marlo recalls buying the car in Arizona, but hasn't retained any info on the guy he bought it from. Marlo says the car was a racer, without a windshield when he bought it.
3. According to Larry Lee's records, it was "titled to the VW/Porsche distributor in New York (World Wide VW) on 2/23/71". (I'm curious what this might mean.)
Attached are recent photos of the chassis after stripping. Noted from the pics are that:
* The car has a -6 rear section clipped together with what's reportedly a -4 front section. ('haven't put eyes on the frunk personally to confirm, but trust that's accurate.)
* <Presumably> the VIN stamping from the original -6 rear section has been welded into the RF fender area. The Manufacturer's tag, fender ViN stamping, and title all match.
* There's evidence of a previous roll bar installation on the floor.
* The windshield has been removed and welded back on.
* There's what appears to be chassis stiffening added in the rear. It can be seen in the wheel wells and in the rear trunk. The stiffening inside the rear trunk resembles factory 'GT' stiffening.
Any help, insight, knowledge or ideas regarding the car’s history would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
... Bob

Hi Bob,
everything I have on this VIN is an old thread out of the good old roadglue forum from January 2009:
Hi Wolfgang - Thanks for your reply. You’re right, that’s my old post from Road Glue.
I’m at a “crossroads” ... and curious whether the rear (real -6) portion of the chassis has any significant historical value, or is just part of another abused old 914-6.
