Are these painted black or body color?

Mine are chrome. Don't know if that's correct, but all of the headlight retaining rings on every BMW and Porsche I've ever owned were chrome.

late car, should be a satin black
Somewhere in 74 they switched from a polished stainless steel, to painted.
No chrome

Mine are polished stainless steel on my 74 1.8 4/74 build month.
