The link I have provided gives the color codes for various 914 years. On my COA it states the color for my '72 /6 is a Gemini Metalic Blue code /86
When checking on the link I find the code is given as L96E for that color. What is going on here?

well, that's a little confusing ...
there were 2 types of colour code, the "VW-Code" and the "Porsche-Code"
the VW-Code is the Lxxx Code - gemini blue metallic = L96E
the Porsche-Code is the xx10 Code - gemini blue metallic = 8610
all 914-4 used the "VW-Code"
most 914-6 used the "Porsche-Code"
all MY'70
most MY'71 - up to around VIN 9141430400
all later 914-6 used the "VW-Code"

This is confusing since the Euro '72/ 6 I own has the VW in the 914-6 Script. Am I correct in assuming that both color codes 8610 and L96E will be identical Gemini metallic paint? Thanks Karl

I think the 72 6's were stamped with the vw code. That explains that, but since its a 6, the COA will show the porsche code. (If im wrong, be sure to correct me). I think the colors are still the same though.

No, this is not confusing as *ALL* european 914/6 had the VW in the script.
The badge has nothing to do with the color codes ...

What is more interesting, and important is: what is stamped on your Karmann badge?? Color code printed on the COA depend on who is preparing it. Quite often they use the xxV9 code, and that was NEVER used on the Karmann badge!

The letters are hard to read but your sequence of letters is correct.
