914World.com _ The Paddock _ DSP 914 build

Posted by: bam914 Jul 2 2010, 07:26 PM

Started work on my friend Ivan's '70 914 last night. We got the engine and trans out so I could start the rust repair. I started removing all the legal things you can for street prepared and have already removed over 60#. We scaled this car before we started and it weighed 1850 w/o the top. So we are already under 1800#. We are putting fiberglass gt flares on so that should save a few pounds. I am really hoping that when it is all said and done that it stays under 1800#.

Good luck and keep posting the progress. But couldn't find one in worse condition?

It looks good in pictures. The right rear has been hit and repaired poorly and the hellhole is a hellhole. But it was 100% stock except for the 32/36 weber. It even has the '70 only rear bumper on it.

Good class, tons of competition, even at local events.....in my experience.
There are a bunch of 4 valve motors setting on your chest, however.
Give em' hell.

Blake,

I'm VERY interested in hearing more. I started building an SP 914 many years ago. Since the car has found jack-stands more comfortable than asphalt as of late, most of my recent development has been on paper...

Would love to hear what you plan to do for a tire/wheel combo.

That IT motor you put together would be the perfect power plant.

As for competition, DSP is gonna have some heavy BMW competition. On the right course though, a fully built 914 might be able to give 'em a run. Gonna be tough though...

DSP 914 is a lot like FP 2.5 Boxster. We are out gunned HP wise by BMW's and Evo's but hoping lightweight and handling puts us up in the standings but power and grip does rule in AX.

That course at Lincoln looks just like the courses you were so enamored with down at SD & El Toro, eh? rolleyes.gif
Earth to Grant: That was a real National level course.

Thanks JP I wouldnt have a sense of what a "real" nationals course might look like. Truly appreciate your incredible insight! lol-2.gif

Guess I'll be able to relate actual Nationals experience`this year rather than internet pretending like you and Brit. happy11.gif You guys stick to small pond, its working for ya!

Now back to DSP 914 talk! Blake impresses me as somone who seriously follows through with development projects rather than engaging in internet puffery we see from the NorthWest.

rolleyes.gif Internet puffery? You're the only guy I see struting your stuff. JP even admits he's the builder and not a driver.

I think the numerous jackets from up here speak for themselves as well confused24.gif

Lets get back on topic. A real serious DSP build from Blake! I'd put my money behind this build.
