I was reading the parade classification to determine the proper class for my car in PCA autox
I have a 2056
raised spindles
and modified camber up front
So as I read it would be IO2 4cyl 2000cc - 2699cc but the minimum weight is supposed to be 2500lbs.
I don't think my car weighs that much. do I need to carry ballast?
the weights in the rules are not right. I questioned them late last year, the question went to the head 'rulemaker' and they were changed. I know that they haven't changed the book, but 2,000 lbs is the correct number.
The other issue I found revolves around cams. The rules state that something allowed in a 'slower' class is required in 'faster' classes unless expressly allowed. If you read the rules, stock cams are required in the Production class, but never expressly allowed in other classes. So, stock cam required everywhere.
Seems like people understand the rules have issues and build what they think is really right.
Unless your suspension puts you in I2, I thin I1 is the right class for you.
so does a non stock cam put you in modified?
No. Any cam should work in Improved.
What will push you into modified is a compression ratio that is 1 above stock. In our case, anything over 8.6:1
I'm reading 2007 rules which put IO1 at 1999cc
maybe these rules are too old to be using.
Are there more current rules on line?
Found some 2014 rules I see some things have changed on the improved classes
but it still doesn't say you are allowed a other than non stock cam in improved
Production says you must use stock but improved doesn't make mention of cams.
thanks
I noticed they no longer have weight minimums listed in the 2014 rules
Have they dropped that requirement?
