914World.com _ The Paddock _ Road Atlanta - Cool Sound(s)

Posted by: Cracker Dec 10 2015, 06:55 AM

Wndsurfr got me thinking with a post of his...not a "914" but a pretty neat sound and perspective of Road Atlanta and Barber (awesome facility and track - go if you can!).

Man that car is fun to drive. Sportsracers teach you to be smooth and precise - they're all about momentum and carrying speed through the twisties. Don't every drive one - they'll change your perception of what "fast" is forever! rolleyes.gif

OMG Tony--you're turning 1:33's at RA! Awesome. Oh, yeah, the sound is super for sure.
BTW, when you were making turn 4 at Barber, did you ever see the spider? I didn't...

1:33 would be an easy lap...my fastest lap is 1:28.4

I've seen the spider at Charlott's Web but never while I was driving on the track. LOL.

Does that DSR have a hyabusa?
That thing is awesome! And it appears the PCA lets you run?

Bob,

All former D-Sportsracers (DSR's) had to run 1-Liter motors. Nobody ran anything but GSXR1000 (GIXXERS) motors for years. Now, SCCA has screwed the classes and combined the old CSR (much heavier) with the smaller DSR's. The CSR are allowed to run Busa's but the engine of choice are rotary and car based engines. They've renamed the classes to Prototype 1 (more downforce) and P2 (less DF). Despite these changes, the runoffs in 2014 (Laguna) were won by a DSR GIXXER 1000 powered car. Amazing cars they are...the track record at Road Atlanta is held by a friend of mine - 1:17.8 (= STUPID FAST)!

More than you asked but you got it now...cheers! Regarding the PCA, most groups only require a car to have body (no open wheel) and to not be a prick or reckless. The disparity in speed is such that it is a cause of concern, especially through the corners. Play nicely and they're shouldn't be a problem.

That's friggin insane!

This is really cool! THAT's how I wish our car was driven, and I'm slowly getting my driver to approach that level of commitment. I forgot to update my thread on our shot at the P2 Runoffs, gotta do that. Thanks for posting!

Thanks George. I just read your thread update for the P2 car...nice experience. It takes a little time to adjust to the pace and sensation of a downforce car - some never do. Being a P2 car, your car has more limited downforce. I'd encourage you to drive the car if given the chance - like nothing with doors and roof! George Dean has built all of my motors - he's the best in the business. If you do the school and drive the car let us know your thoughts please.

All the best!

Just curious, is engine management open, or are you forced to use the stock controllers?

Open.
