914World.com _ The Paddock _ Racing Wheels?

Posted by: stugray Dec 29 2017, 02:22 PM

I have a set of steelie racing wheels that are 15 X 7 with a 128mm Backspace (5.0 inch)
Or positive 39mm offset.
They look custom made on DOT 15X7 steel hoops.

They seem to fit my narrow body car pretty good with Hoosier SM7s.
I use a couple if spacers 3/8 or 1/2 but I get no rubbing with rolled fenders.

The problem is that I cannot find another set of these wheels for a spare or rain set.
Diamond racing makes 15X7 but only up to a 4 inch backspace.

Does anyone know where to get some steel 15X7 wheels with 5 inch backspace?

Or even hoops that are exactly 15X7?

I am about to breakdown and build a rotary table so I can make my own.

Probably stupid question, would Diamond sell the hoops & centers separately so you could have someone weld them up??

Sorry I don't know of a source offhand, but curious why you are hunting for steel wheels for racing? Are you talking 4-bolt or 5-bolt?

I have emails ito diamond with that very question.

I also found this source: http://www.millertire.com/products/wheels/front-tractor-imp-wheels/blank/15x-7-rim-blank/

Dont know how that compares to the hoops I have.

Edit - I just heard from millertire and they said they do not have VW bolt pattern centers, but they would weld the centers in if I provided them.

So - does anyone know where to get VW centers only?
I can cut them out of some old wheels but I would rather have new.

I am a 4 bolt car. I havent upgraded to 5 lug.
I am also a narrow body with rolled fenders
I use a set of the stock Fuchs but the SM7 barely fits on that wheel.
So I have a set of steelie 15X7 with 5 inch offset that work perfectly.

I just have no spare and would like to not have the fuchs as my backup/rain tire.
I bought the set of steelies second hand, so not sure who made them.

Years ago I had a set of Panasport (Minilite copy) 4-lug wheels that were really nice and IIRC were available in 15x6 and 15x7; the former fit my car OK with 205 DOT-R tires at the time. I did run 195 and 205 -R tires on the stock 4-lug Fuchs also. Can't recall if/how much the fenders were rolled on that car but it had zero flare and a streetable alignment.

15x7 aluminum are dot approved, I cut the mahles center out and welded the new outer ... they could have had 5 inch BS silver pic,,but the owner wanted the BS as in the blk center pic..

Can you make more?
Do you cut the centers out yourself?

I would imagine you need a big lathe to cut & clean them up
