Vintage racing in Europe is much more strict to FIA rules
They are not allowed sticky tires. No Hoosiers
He looks to be on bias ply racing tires and have much less traction than US style of vintage racing
those escorts are looking pretty damn cool too.
Cool video. The car is oversteering. The driver is sawing at the wheel to keep the car in line, and in a couple turns gets a bit out of line and those sedans get by him.
Also noticed he's using Second gear in spots....either he's got a tall 2nd or that's a tight track--I'm never in 2nd on our tracks....
Manhandling it. Not very many races before a gearbox rebuild with those shifts. Also not handling traffic very well.
Armchair expert that I am...
Can I assume that is a 2L 914-6 engine. Mark
I'm going to go the opposite way.. imho, if you aren't sawing at the wheel of an old racecar, you are doing it wrong. Both in period and even the cool modern "Goodwood" videos, the old cars just need to be driven differently vs the smooth comfy driving you see in todays GTLM cars. And of course by about 1/2 way through, the tires are hot and greasy.. the trans is hot and doesn't want to shift easily etc.
Likely a 2.0L flat six.. given the 10K rpm tach and it sitting pretty high up on the tach, I would guess 2.0L 911S spec or better... 180+hp.. maybe closer to 220hp but then again, I don't know the sanctioning rules.
I like what looks like a ratchet strap on the pass side door handle. Simplicity.
