914World.com _ The Paddock _ Tires for my aftermarket wheels....

Posted by: Virgil Jun 24 2006, 01:07 AM

wheels on my car are 15 by 5.5 wide, any good suggestions for a street tire that could take a track day/AX event.

Sorry for the stupidity of this post, haven't even seen my car yet in person.

205/50/15 Falken Azenis Sport RT615 is the gold standard for street/comp driving.

Appreciate it.... I have been very busy as of late (only barely made it to the weekend). Being down in the motor pool all day long is a pain in the arse. It may have to wait for a while, just bought new tires for my bike (pilot powers, love those tires...) and I have pretty new pirelli's on the car as it is.

How are they in the wet? I live in washington state so getting caught out in the rain is a distinct possiblity...

We had a bunch of Hankook RS-2 cars show up today. Just as fast as the Azenis. I think a bit cheaper too.
and better in the rain.

RS-2's looks like what I am looking for, just hard to find a place that sells both falken and hankook, I haven't found a solid price comparison yet.

Falkens were selling at vulcan tires for about 75 bucks a tire (not bad). Wear isn't really an issue, after all its a lighter car then most performance cars these days and I won't be driving it that much (thats what honda motorcycles are for).

I'm getting Hankooks for my 914 as street tires and Autocross rains.
225/50-15 on 8 inch rims. Should fit nicely under the flares.

Yeah the Hankooks are nice just harder to find.

There is a big tread on sccaforums about this tire, look in the street tire classes forum. From what they've shown, the 225 kook is just barely wider than a Falken 205 (RT-215). I didn't see any comparison to the 615 but i think it is a little narrower than the 215.

Seems like almost all the top STS2 guys are using the Falken. An interesting note is that Andy Hollis is running a 205-40-16 Falken on his GRM miata, which is actually narrower than the 15" verson to get better turn in response and a smaller tire diameter.

Interesting, I think I will go for the falkens when the time goes, they have fresh pirelli's on the car itself right now (might as well use those while I have them), they are not the stickiest tire but hey, they are nearly new.
