914World.com _ The Paddock _ Ginther Windscreen
Posted by: groot Sep 11 2006, 02:00 PM
I'm looking for a Richie Ginther-style windscreen source.
I see that GT racing sells one for $625.... which I consider unreasonable, and I would figure out a way to make my own.
Does anyone know of another source and price? Ideally, less expensive.

Make a mold out of foam, buy some 1/8in lexan and drape form it with a heat gun.

Making one out of carbon fiber would be VERY easy and cool.
People always paint them anyway so they don't need top be clear.

Some clubs say you have to be able to see through them.
I always figured if I ran into that venue I would just cut out part of the screen in front and then rivet in a clear section. Might look cool anyway.

I thought that might be the case.

I spoke with Mike Cudahy at Prototype Composites (the company that did my front end). He could knock one of these out, but he'd need a part to make a tool from and then pull the carbon parts from that.
If someone was interested in splitting the cost of the part and tooling.... I could be talked into it.

I would design something a little more aero than the Ginther piece. Something that does a better job of smoothing the airflow over the open passenger compartment.

Do you think it will help pull (English Term) the girls?

Not if you're pushing it.

Kevin,The one on my car is from Patrick.Made of fiberglass not lexan.Very light weight but decently made.I had lexan one on previously and once it starts to crack it doesn't want to stop. Also heavier. For $185(+/-) the Patrick one seems to be best bang for the buck.
