I haven't made my reservation for a room in Camarillo yet. I'm not sure if I can afford the Hampton depending on what the track fees will be. biggrin.gif

BTW, this picture was on the http://www.innoflancaster.com/index2.html web site. A good omen?

You'd better check your reservations, I just got off the phone with them and they said they are not taking ANY reservations for 2005 until the 2nd week of December??? So, Howard, wasssup? BTW I'm locked and loaded for the 22-23 at the Hampton, when do you want the 150.00?

What are the approximate distances? It takes a long time to get to each side of LA much less between Camarillo, Paramount Ranch, and Lancaster/Willow Springs track.

Felix

Felix, glad you asked so I can brag a bit wink.gif

One of the biggest problems we faced was avoiding LA traffic. That's why Camarillo was selected for the starting point. The Inland empire and San Diego/Orange county guys get stuck, but they have a shorter drive than you NorCal types.

All of the events are located north or west of LA. If you map Bay area to Camarillo, there are no real traffic spots on that route. Camarillo to Paramount is less than 20 miles by freeway, but we'll make it much longer with Mulholland Highway twisty tour and poker run.

The trip from Camarillo to Lancaster is serious, almost 90 miles. But by doing this mid day Sunday, and not going through the city, it shouldn't take more than 1.5 hours. All freeway with some 70mph limit. Leaving the track late in the day Monday is likewise easy. Straight shot via 138 to I5 for youse guys, and SoCal members would head back against rush hour traffic.

All this could blow up, of course, with one Sigalert, but we tried.

you can never start planing too early. just for drill i checked out expedia for the route to camarillo. their directions take the I5-405-101 drive, right into the belly of the beast. what is hwy 126 like? 16 hrs and change.

Really depends on your ETA. 405/101 is brutal during rush hours in either direction, but shortest. Good news is you only have to face it on incoming trip. 126 is very open.

The trick is getting from the 5 to the 101. You may want to do it just south of the bay area as the 101, while a bit longer, is much prettier, and you'll have to face the 5 boredom going home. Just my dos centavos.

Posted by: ! Nov 18 2004, 12:33 PM

126 is nice....just been redone. It connects the 101 to the I 5....

alison, i (and other college teachers/profs i know) let my students reschedule exams etc. whenever they have a conference or a trip directly related to their field of study. it may require a bit of flexibility and extra work on their part, but it's almost always negotiable.*

Sooooo, the onerous is on you to find a "conference" or "event" related to your studies -- show up for the keynote, and then spend the rest of the weekend with us!

(still figuring out how i'm going to get out of teaching on friday and monday....), n

Just don't show up like my Prof's did...................they were sick...............You could claim a case of Alheimninefourteenzers and you just forgot. <_<

Alison (with one L).........You mean you ACTUALLY go to class and show up to sit a final? I've always wondered what "Sitting a Final" actually means. My random thoughts bring a vision of sitting at a desk, bouncing pencils by the eraser. Is a #2 required for this "in depth" testing?

If you like the moon......

Track has food/drink/fuel (verry expensive 95 oct) flush toilets. Rosamond, little town 6 mi away has std gas sta and fast food places. Lancaster, 20 ish miles has more, but not much.

Nearest real golf course 30 miles away, so come down early or stay later if you wanna play.

Andy (drew365) will be posting the actual rules, but usual stuff: battery (if you can pull hard and it doesn't move, it's OK), wheel bearings, brakes and lights. Helmets, belts, 'really' open cars (not teeners or targas) need roll bar.

Posted by: skline Dec 17 2004, 06:12 PM

So when you say open cars, does that mean I have to run with the top on? I know it has the factory targa roll bar but some places require you to have the top on the car if it is a solid top convertible. Could you please clarify this for me?

Posted by: Howard Dec 17 2004, 07:31 PM

I'll leave that for Andy..I like to go topless

Posted by: drew365 Dec 23 2004, 07:37 PM

I got in late last night from NYC. I just want to do a quick post here so you guys don't think I'm ignoring you.
Tech inspection will cover all the obvious items you already know about. Main items would be:
Battery, securely in place, not wobbly.
Brake pads, the track is tough on pads, if you're at or below 1/4 pad put on new ones before you get to the track.
No brake fluid leaks
Wheel bearings not worn.
Brake lights working.
I promise to get a complete list together soon and post it for all to see.

Posted by: neo914-6 Jan 1 2005, 05:39 PM

Howard,
The people at the Hampton reserved the 29th and 30th stating this is when the 914 event starts. IPB Image Can you confirm or deny so I can get this straightened out?
Felix

Posted by: Part Pricer Jan 1 2005, 06:03 PM

Yea, this is getting a little confusing.

At first, the dates were to be 4/22 through 4/24. Then Howard announced that the dates had to be moved to a week later (due to a track scheduling conflict I think). The new dates were set as April 29th through May 1st.

Now, the first post in this thread reflects the 4/22 through 4/24 dates. The signup form indicates the 4/22 through 4/24 dates. And, the sponsors letter gives the dates as 4/22 through 4/24. I don't remember anything about the dates being set back to the originals.

So, the dates are (pick one):
4/22 through 4/24
4/29 through 5/01

Posted by: drew365 Jan 1 2005, 07:44 PM

The original dates were April 29,30, May 1,2. We had to move the event forward because our track date that was reserved was given to a bigger fish (Mazda). The dates that are at the beggining of this thread, 4/22 - 4/25, are correct as are the dates on the sign up sheet. If the Hamptons needs to be straightened out, I'm sure Howard will take care of it. He went out on the Hangover Run today and is probably recuperating.

Posted by: Howard Jan 2 2005, 12:30 PM

Dates as per updated first post are correct. Hotel front desk is a bit confused, called them again today, and they'll get over it.

Just so you don't need to go thru the whole thread, Willow cancelled the original date we wanted so all moved on week earlier and will remain that way. IPB Image

You mean there's a shuttle bus to the Camarillo Hampton Inn from LAX?

Posted by: drew365 Jan 6 2005, 09:41 PM

Probably not specific for the Hampton, but definately one for either Ventura or Santa Barbara that would drop you at the Hampton. Or you could rent a car a LAX and take it to the track. I won't tell. IPB Image

Posted by: ! Jan 6 2005, 09:43 PM

Santa Barbara Air Bus can drop you off on the way from LAX to Santa Barbara....you might wanna call the Hampton and see if they have their own van...pretty good chance they do....they also have Super Shuttles that do the LAX to Ventura runs on the half hour....

Best to check the LAX website....they have links to all the shuttles and limo services.....prolly a good idea if you coordinate with the other outta townies and share a ride.

BTW....LAX is RIGHT next to Pelican Parts in El Segundo....old time 914 concour weenie Don of Don and Glenn's Barbeque fame works there again........maybe Howie can talk Wayne into a welcome wagon seeing how we spend a lot of money there....

Rick; if you're driving, I'm sure we can make arrangements to get your wife picked up at LAX and waiting for you at someones house so she wouldn't have to wait for you and the caravan to hit LAX which isn't real caravan friendly. Just a thought, LAX is no big deal to a veteran but can be a little overwhelming for a newb.

I thought if I checked in the Hotel on Thursday I could plan on her flying in on Friday am. But if there's a way she can get herself to the hotel that may be better. Were working on it. I'm hunting for the thread where ejm posted his possible flight plans. I think he posted something about getting a rental car from the airport.

Well Zeus, your're living in the past again.....just as D. Haney left PP again.....

Ok, I just went through 9 pages of fluff and I still don't know what's going on. Maybe I should re-read a bit.

Questions:
Directions from points east?
Most people are staying where?
What there to do?
How much does it cost?
What track fees?
How much to just be a wall flower?
What's all this talks about speeking American, English or Scotch?
Can someone get a ride if their car goes flambe.

Posted by: Jenny Jan 10 2005, 11:58 AM

Are any socal people getting rooms, or just commuting sat & sun?

What's all this talks about speeking American, English or Scotch? You had to be at 2004 to appreciate the language barrier
Can someone get a ride if their car goes flambe. Ride, sympathy, tech support, and track fee all included in $150.

Everything is on the first page or shown as a link from there. The rest of it is just fun stuff, and typical 914club hijacking.

Jen, can't speak for everyone, but IMHO activities around the Pruneyard Inn last year were a blast. Chinese dinner, Suck for a Buck, Translating Scottish to English, etc. I'm trying to have more of that, so hope all will stay as a group. I will be at Hampton Fri and Sat nights and booked a suite at Lancaster for Sun and Mon nights, so we have a 'headquarters'.

No Swap meet planned at this time. Deadline is when we get tired of accepting entry forms IPB Image

Seriously, register ASAP so we have a better idea of how to order and plan. You can always get a refund, or send it in without $$ now if y0u're strapped.

I'm sending my form (and check even!) today.

As for the swap meet, how about a virtual swap meet thread.. people can list what they want, what they have, and make the deals before the wcc even happens.. then we can just swap money and parts when we get there. That way people won't have to bring unsold stuff home. I used to love swap meets.. until I started selling at them... so boring, and it sucks to have to pack up 80-90% of what you brought because you can't even give it away IPB Image

Posted by: boxstr Jan 13 2005, 10:41 AM

Royce, Welcome to the world of swap meets, pack up, unpack, pack up, unpack. The idea of a virtual swap meet is great.
Only thing is most people want the the stuff know, so you might get an order to bring a part to the WCC but they may have found it sooner or at a better price.
If you get paid for the part first then bring it, that could work.
I will bring the items I sell online at WWW. CAMP914.COM, plus a few more goodies. Looks like I won't be driving a 914 down. IPB Image

Bondo, if you want to do it, great. I will link to 'home' page. And for everyone, how about just bringing some stuff you don't need, donate to the raffle/auction (remember, it's Special Olympics) and get a receipt for write off.

Posted by: rhodyguy Jan 13 2005, 12:47 PM

howard, will the fee for attending be tax deductable? there was some mention of that in the beginning. will you be notifying people of reciept of payment or will we have to wait for it to show up on our bank statement? i sent mine last week. thanks for all the work.

kevin

Posted by: Howard Jan 13 2005, 01:05 PM

I am not a CPA. Refer to page one:
Event will be held to benefit Special Olympics, so your entry fee may be tax deductible.
No receipt will be sent.

Posted by: bondo Jan 13 2005, 01:12 PM

My understanding of donations is they are only deductable if you get nothing in return. Entry into the WCC is something, so I'm guessing it's not. Also, if you buy something at the raffle/auction, that wouldn't be deductable either. But if you donate something to be auctioned or raffled, that would be deductable. I could be wrong here, but in my experience that's the way it seems to work.

Posted by: rhodyguy Jan 13 2005, 01:17 PM

i was just wondering. when public tv has their pledge drives, you get a "gift" for donating, and the donation is deductable. hope you got my check.

You'll only need docs if audited.

Me and dad are coming.... but we both want to race...

My guess is one regisitration. and register a guest.

Is there an extra track fee for him? or did the club just rent the track for the day and you'll pass him by as a kid that doesnt need to pay (you know.. some resteraunts dont charge for kids..)

So....

2 people racing one car (if thats possible) is it an extra bit of money?
