Someone wanted more pix of the blue car with the giant wing...
We'll see how it does at the track tomorrow...
Someone found an original green negative stripe and gave it to Jeff Bowlsby. Jeff then painted the parts to match the stripe, and put them on his white LE. Since the ZPW parts were from an aftermarket supplier, we are pretty sure the colors are not the same that Karmann used when building the LE's. That seems pretty evident with the yellow stripes. Anyway, it was a nice exercise to see what it could have looked like. In my opinion only, possibly all grasshoppers were homebuilds like this.
nah, seen 'em originally in the '70's

I was in Beauty Chillen behind Ron [(yeah right) we were cookin] we cought up to some others and got a strightaway and went for it. I jumped 6 scar and Ron got 4, came out of on his ass at +20. Saw a car comeing around the corrner and I was over the DBL yellow line. I could feel Beauty drifting as I crossed back over the line,
( that is when I saw the COP with RADAR). Too late for me so I tryed to keep the drift under control and pulled up next to him. The lights came on and he went around me to go into persiute of Ron.

Haha, I cant beleive no one said this yet, but leaving Paramount ranch in demicks car, His throttle cable broke right under the pedel, and mostly everyone had left and no one had a spare, so Brad Roberts Pulled it back out and pulled it over the rollbar and used it as a hand throttle all the way down the freeway. Easy...he did a "drop trow" earlier in the day....
The Red car was fast! I could wait till the long straight, I'm driving for fun not to win. I don't mind taking chances on my own, or with cars I'm used to driving with (like wild6), but after seeing you're drinking habits, why take the chance?
It was a fun day on the track!
Here's my panoramic shot from Paramount ranch. If you have the bandwidth, download one of the links. The first is about 500k (half sized and compressed), the second one is 3.2MB (full size). Worth it, but you need to save it (right click, save as) and then open it up with software that will let you zoom and pan around. If you just click the link, it will probably just open in your browser and not look much different than the tiny one like below.
I count 59 914's in this shot.

The yellow turbo looks like Richard Clewetts car. I believe it's a 3.1 turbo.
More pics at http://Clewett.com
That was clewetts car, talked to him for a bit. He says he can only run .8 bar of boost because he doesn't have enough tire to handle the power. I liked the subtle flares on his car, nice guy to talk with too.
he's friggin' brilliant.
If you need magnecore wires, lectromotive or other goodies he's the one to talk too.
He also converts 911 oil coolers for 914 applications.
I really like the subtle flare work done here. The lines are perfect for the 914.

Getting the Rally directions and map to Paramount Ranch. The road was twisted full of twisties. At one point on Mulholland, my son just started laughing as he tried to stay in his seat. We were in a section of 8 or 9 (posted 20 mph) turns in a row. It was quite the wild ride, sunny and hot, with In & Out burgers and drinks at the other end.
The rooms at the Hampton Inn were great. Free breakfast was easy, and the parking convenient. My 16 year old son Drue asked a million questions of half of the participants. He saw more cars in more colors with an even larger assortment of wheels and tire sizes. He was making a list of things to do to his 1974 914 back in the shop at home.
The WCC was awesome! I can't thank you guys enough for all the hard work you put into making this such a great event.

Scott, I noticed that you a picture of the AA car, I think that is the one that they were building called "Extreme Makover", did Greg drive out or was it trailered? How does it look? How did it run? did he drive it at Willow Springs?
No, That is not the extreme makeover car, that was Greg Treadway's personal car he trailered out for the event. They were still doing some fine tuning on it Friday night but had it running pretty good on Saturday. I thought it was a 6 from the sound of it on Saturday when they took it out on the road behind the Hampton Inn. It sounded awesome and went way better than I thought it would. Very quick car. I saw them at the track but I dont think they took the car out.

You guys in the west are so lucky to have great weather and so many nice 914's!!! Next year I am totally coming from the northeast to the WCC! The pictures look sweet.
Grasshopper, pictures look great.
gregs car was sweet, High up on my list of favorites. The CB Performance FI looked nice but I could not get any info from him about the sensors of anything else of a technical nature. It was obvious that HE did not do any of teh work. I think he would have earned some credability among us if he attmitted that it ran like shit Friday night and even more if he had teh balls to run it on teh track. Its not like he had to drive it back to Maryland or Georgia for that matter. They had a trailer!

Thanks.. That was all of them. I had a new camera to me so if I had my old camera their would have been a lot more. Look out next year
Wow, Wow, Thanks for the wonderful pictures and stories. I was glued to the site every day waiting for this. Congratulations to everyone @ WCC 2005.
My observations:
WCC is a racer group with a few weenies.
Yellow & orange were everywhere.
The WCC will get grow each year.
914's are on the move up.
West Coast has beautiful cars and lots of modified 6's & V/8's.
And on & on.
BTW
Why didn't Bowsley have his picture taken next to the other black/yellow Bumblebee?
Can someone put names to the cars for the ones who didn't attend?
My favorite was the Black w/fender flares. I think it's Vegas Racer's car. I want one just like it. It hits my 914 G-spot.
Tom

Sweet car...
Attached image(s)
Is that "weenie" as in "concours weenie"? I think I represent that remark! As Brad mentioned, myself and some of the other concours weenies were out on the track with the rest of the "normal" WCC racers. I think Brad's analysis is correct too; I do know of a few teeners that get all their mileage from driving it from the garage to the trailer and vice versa. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
My problem is that I'm trying to walk the fine line between keeping a very nice low mileage car in good shape and still enyoying it the way its "supposed" to be enjoyed. As Brad is aware, I have added a front sway bar, beefier tires, lighter wheels and stainless brake lines. Other "invisible" changes will likely be replacing the KYB's and possibly some brake changes. I would like to remove the rugged rubber baby buggy bumpers, but then its no longer a '76. However, IF the Boss approves and IF I can get more garage space, I would love to have a six (or a bigger four) as a dedicated autox/race car!
P.S. BTW, I think the concours Teeners go a good way towards increasing interest in the 914's in general thus increasing sales thus helping all the normal owners sell their cars. See you all at the Palo Alto Concours!

Hi all!
I got my film back, and some of them turned out great! Some not so great.
what can ya do?
I'll post my favorites here, and if you are interested in prints of your car you can email me. remind me what your ride looks like. Photographic prints aren't cheap, high quality Giclee (500dpi color printer) are cheaper and easier. I can scan them here at home and send you small digital photos for free is you just want a copy without the prints.
basically, if you went through bouquet cyn, and weren't in my group at the track I got a good/bad shot of your car.
Prints of any other stuff i post are available too.
Oh, and if they look grainy or different than the others posted... thats called film.

checking on print prices for those who asked. Its looking like about 25-30 for 8x10's and as large as 16x20 or more for big bucks. This one place says they can mount them to the backside of a piece of plexi with the image showing through. Very cool i thought.
