Hey all! Just a reminder that the Route 66 Classic is coming up in less than 3 weeks. If you don't know what this is, check out the details http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=7&t=30501.
Here's the list of folks who will be making it as far as I know. If you are not on this list or I've got your status wrong, please chime in here. I'd like to give the folks at the diner an estimate for breakfast on Saturday.

im done with finals on the 8th. i start work on the 13th! 
we will see. lagunero and i were talking about a midnight drive to avoid the heat. i also need bigger than 50 series tires for a long drive.....

Williams, AZ is on I-40, about 30 miles west of Flagstaff. Ash Fork, where we're starting with breakfast, is about 20 miles west of Williams.
From Wickenburg you either have to get back to I-17 and take that North to I-40 at Flagstaff, or go through Yarnell/Prescott/Chino Valley - the road ends at I-40/Ash Fork.

Whimpette....I ran 50 series to Tuscon and back....steady 4000 RPM......whatcha afeered that that mighty engine might puke something in the middle of the dirty rotten stinkin hot desert?

My final decision, subject to change, of course.
Will drive to Laughlin early Saturday AM in SUV with A/C and good stereo to prepare the welcome wagon. Stay over Sat night, and perhaps Sunday if I'm winning

I just booked my room for Friday night in Williams. I will be staying at the Econo Lodge. They seemed to be the best option. Located on Route 66 (302 E. Hwy 66, walking distance from the main drag in town) Gotta be close to the 'action'. Reasonable rates ($52 if you say you have AAA). They do still have rooms available. (928) 635-4085.

I'm getting very excited! My car is off jackstands for the first time in months. Tomorrow I have to install the battery and then it will be ready to fire up for the first time. I'm as nervous as can be, but can hardly wait for tomorrow after work to try it!

One of the hotels I considered down the street was located at 911 E. Route 66.
All of the reviews from Expedia were very bad.

I'm in Surprise (about 20miles closer to Phoenix than Wickenburg) and I can vouch that the scenic route through Prescott is a much more relaxed route than the 17.
If I can make it I'll most likely take the back-way via Prescott.

Room booked at the Econo for Fri Nite ~ Anticipate about an 11:30 PM arrival unless I can bail on work early.....Damn, no smoking rooms available...guess I'll have to leave my pot at home.

I got 50 series tires too.... of course the other numbers are 245 and 16

My first POST! Yeah! I finally found a good 914 board... why it took so long I have no idea.
I can more than likely attend this event but will need to find a copilot as riding alone for hours and hours just isnt that much fun to me. I'm sure there's a fine lady here in phx that will be up for it. 
btw, I have 245/50 15's... I dont run 4k rpm unless I'm doing almost 90....
Anybody close in Phoenix? I'd love to meet up and ask someone with more experience with these cars a lot of questions... I'll bring the Corona..

well... My clutch just started slipping a little worse this week. I'm thinking it probably wouldnt be too good of an idea to drive up ANY hills especially that many miles from home.

I've got the time... it's that a new clutch is 400 and a new flywheel is 300 --- And if I'm going to yank the engine, I might as well fix the battery tray rust and firewall rust at the same time...
I would definately drive the speedster but the engine is already out of that... waiting for cash to flow again as I have had a machined case waiting to build the 2275 for it since January!
I lost my job in Jan that brought me to Phoenix.. had to sell my 02 Silverado and had worked temporarily at a place making crappy money until just last week. I am now with BankOne and should be back to good in a few weeks.
And... since my little beaters arent going north, I've agreed to drive a friends TA up to a thirdgen.org meet while he drives is Camaro. Sorry guys.
But seriously, Tell me you dont get together on a regular basis anyway.. c'mon... i know how this car addiction is. we dont do it by ourselves.

OK I'm finally chiming in on this one here. LuckieO and I are one step closer to being able to come to Flagstaff. We finally got some guys to trade us shifts at work, so we now have Saturday off. We need to get Luck's shift on Friday night covered, so we can be there for breakfast... We're working on it... (Talk about last minute!)
Joe (914RS) won't know if he'll be able to come until the morning of, most likely. We'll keep working on it! How could we miss a gathering only 6 hours away?

I'm getting really psyched about the weekend. My car is officially back on the road tonight after a test drive with my wife. The new engine ran soooo sweet and when I pushed it up to 90 the car was as smooth as one could want. It's been so long I'd forgotten just how great it is to drive this teener.
Just looking at the list of who will be coming is enough to get me excited about Saturday. This is gonna be fun!

Golf tournament in the morning...I am a sponsor. Daughter's first ballet recital in the afternoon. If push came to shove I could get out of golf. However, I wouldn't miss the ballet recital for all the 914 fun in the world.

Kingman Arizona is just about the mid point of our cruise and the biggest town we will go thru. I checked the http://www.weatherforyou.com/weather/Arizona/Kingman.html and they predict mostly sunny and a high in the mid 80's for Saturday.

Okay, all shifts have been shuffled, and Liz/Turtlegirl and I will be joining the crew for at least part of the 66 Classic! Joe Sharp should be here sometime tomorrow. We will be dining at the ever so famous Turtle Mountain Brewing...and having a few beers of course! I suppose we will leave sometime after breakfast on Friday en route to Williams. So we sould arrive sometime in the early afternoon. We will be joining you all on at least part of Saturday's adventure, before we head back to ABQ. Unfortunately we will not be traveling in a 914. Liz's was just blasted...certainly no where ready to drive...Joe would divorce me if we took the RS...We can not even take my 911...wheel bearing is almost toast. Oh well, Liz's Passat will have to do...a fine German machine as well! I am sad to say, as you might have guessed by my previous statement, that Joe will not be able to join us.
Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing you all!

So it looks like we're staying in Williams Friday night, (count us in for dinner) hanging out for part of the run on Saturday, and then heading back home Saturday afternoon. Is there a particular hotel everyone is hanging out on Friday? I guess I should try to get a room!!!

FYI - The EconoLodge was fairly well booked up when I called Monday afternoon.

Well.... I booked a room (AAA) online, and it gave me a confirmation # and everything... Hopefully the online system and the front desk people communicate!!!

Oh yeah... I forgot to tell you that part. The hotel said they didn't have anything but they had me call the national number and they booked me in. Go figure... I hope they get it worked out before we're all sleeping in the lobby.

48 hour countdown until 9:14 a.m. meet for breakfast at Mandy's Route 66 Grill in Ash Fork, AZ at 322 W. Lewis Ave.
Less than 36 hours until the fun and debauchery start at the Neverland Party Bus in the parking lot of the Econo Lodge in Williams.

Well, it looks like LuckieO is bailing on us.
I'm still coming, though! Does anyone have any beer requests? I'm not bringing kegs, but I can swing a couple of gallons of the good stuff...
Right now we have the following on tap:
American Wheat (Brought to the WCC)
Red Rye (a Fat Tire style amber)
Trog ESB
C-3 IPA
Steam (brought to the WCC)
Irish Stout
What should I bring? (I can bring several kinds, if ya want)

I did something dumb too, my car has been in the shop nearly FIVE WEEKS now, I will have to "learn-how-to-shift" all over again.
Those ribs will be reminding you of "past poor thinking" for weeks, though......
My car is supposed to be done "for the weekend", I may still get "the wild hair" (well half hair, really) and make the Route 66 drive anyway.
As SLITS says "just jump in and GO!"

Wow, that looks like fun! I got the last of the issues sorted out with my car today so I'm ready to rumble!!
This is a guys' day out for our family too. Mike will be there driving his '70 914 and my youngest son Nick (the 75 Bus driver) is coming along for the ride. It's gonna be great!

Come on John....ya know most of these guys are wussies and won't drive over the limits of their AAA card....not adventurous at all................and cracked ribs are not an excuse....I did the WCC05 with a broken foot.......Pansies one and all.
Hell, if it breaks down, you can leave it there....it won't rust in AZ...it's a dry heat

Sorry to say guys (& gals) it looks like I'm out of the running for this year. I'll have to wait a whole year for the next opportunity - that sucks.
The CV joints went out on my teener. I had a spare set of used shafts that we were able to come up with four that were usable for at least a few months - until I can find a source for rebuilts.
Anyhow I ended up spending all the cash (and more) I set aside for the trip
I am totally bummed, but at least my wife gets her car back for the next few weeks.
Enjoy! And get lots of pictures.

Been a great day with perfect weather so far. It's not to hot, that's for sure!
No traffic on Rt66, road conditions are good W-E, so we imagine that the road will be wonderful tomorrow.

Bummer! I don't think it's gonna be a whole year before we do something in Arizona. We've got all winter to do something in the south, the summer to do something in the north, fall to do something in the east and spring to do something in the west. The Arizona gang has become a lot more active since WCC2005 and I expect we'll hatch some kind of plan before 12 months have passed.
At the moment mine stopped running and I'm trying to get it going again - electrical on the relay board I think - I hate when this kind of stuff happens!

I've been telling myself that I've got to stop saying to the club that the car is ready for Saturday... but this time I think it really is! Got the electrical gremlin fixed, adjusted a tight valve, and swapped the busted heat exchanger. Just took it out for a couple of miles and it runs sweet. I think we're actually ready to go... who needs sleep anyway?

I was the last one to show up, and I'm guessing the first one to make it back home, funny how that works. Anyway, had a great time, and enjoyed meeting everyone. I'd love to see more events like this in the future.

Back home in Flagstaff! Wow, what a day! Only got 3 hours of sleep last night after getting the car finished, but it performed flawlessly all day. It was a really fun day with everyone - and the road to Oatman was the most incredible, all out, twisting driving fun I've ever had. If you weren't here, you really missed out! (Gotta rub it in!)
We ended up with 5 cars and 9 people. The folks at the diner in Ash Fork really pulled out all the stops for us. We had our own 914 special that more than filled us for the day for $9.14. I think only Ron and Mike managed to finish it all!
Thanks to John Peterson for scoping out the route ahead of time and for arranging for the great T-Shirts. Thanks to Jeroen for great T-Shirt artwork. Thanks to everyone for showing up!

No, I'm a hard core bottom feeder. I have loved 914's since 1970. Just reading about Porsche engines...... Just shot a few practice rounds(big backyard).
