What a fantastic event.
If you didn't come to the Route 66 Classic because:
you were 2 tired, it was 2 far, it cost 2 much, it was 2 hot or 2 cold, etc, etc.
or any one of over 2 thousand other excuses . . . .
I have 2 words for you . . . . . . "YOU SUCK".
Not only that, you missed out on a really great 914 Classic event.
Just to make you feel worse better, here are enough pictures so you can feel like you were actually hear with us having a great time.
Beautiful pics man... thanks SO much.

The unofficial start of the Route 66 Classic was Friday night in Williams. Turtle Girl (Liz) was the 1st to arrive. I found her by locating the Jetta in the motel parking lot with New Mexico tags. We set out to do a little exploring. Williams is really a cool little town.
We got back to the motel just in time to hook up with the next to join the party, Gint (Mike Ginter). He was driving a rented F150 from Colorado full of teener parts.
There were lots of good choices for dinner. We ended up at Poncho Mcgillicutty's. Here are Mike and Liz sporting their new chapeau's.

Thanks to Liz for the Turtle Beer.

Here's an artsy shot to start the day on Saturday.

Joe Sharp and Linda finally arrive. The Neverland Party Express was having fuel problems. After breakfast Joe took the 'road more traveled' and we would meet up later in the day.

They'll let anyone operate a camera.

Thin Air 914 (Enie DeVries) and his two sons met us in Ash Fork for breakfast.
Their two yellow teeners round out our caravan for the day.
It would have been impossible for us to receive a warmer welcome than we did from Brenda and her crew at the Route 66 Diner in Ash Fork. They had a special menue available just for us. A reporter from the local paper was even there waiting for us to arrive. We will be a feature article in the next edition.

Our weapons of choice.

We saw lots of classic / antique cars every place along the Route.
Some were very nice. Some were rusty shells.

Some were more colorful than others.

Some of the vehicles could only be classified as 'other'.

On the other side of Kingman the real 914 fun began. Up to this point we had strictly followed all of the legal limits. On this next stretch of Route 66 we were restrained only by the laws of physics. The 1st 15 miles of so, the road was similar to what we had been on most of the day so far. The remainig 10 miles into Oatman were twisty turning delights.
Sorry the only photo I took on this section has such poor composition. (I was kinda preoccupied at the time.) On the 2nd part I was even busier trying to find the apexes that kept comming and comming and comming, one right after the other.

thanks for the pics....looks like a great time
The ear to ear grins are now permanent.

No matter what the species, if they are to young it is still considered statuitory.

Leaving Oatman, I took my place at the rear of the pack for a change.

We hooked up with Joe on the way to the Avi.

The good beer provided by Liz was distributed for later consumption.
Liz had headed back to New Mexico after our stop at the caverns.
At this junction Mike took off for Orange County.

Have a shot of Ta-kill-ya with the birthday cake.

As the sun slowly sinks into the west, we say our good byes to our friends and head back home. A perfect end to a perfect day. Until the next one. THE END.

The entertainment at dinner in Williams was split between a mountain man and the singer...

Yeah. So, here's a Dave/Jerry story. Dave picks Vassar Clements up from LAX, and they are driving to the hotel, when Vassar looks up, and sees a billboard..
Vassar: David! That guy on the billboard looks like our guitar player!
Dave: Vassar, that is our guitar player.
Vassar has been very sick. http://www.vassarclements.com/

What a great time
I had not driven a 914 in two years and this reminded me why i will all way's have one.
It was nice meet some new people from the club and seeing some that I had met before.
Linda do you allways dance when you drive?
TurtleGirl the beer was good as I just finished off the Irish stout.
Thank you to all that helped to plan this we need to do this more often.
Great looking roads! and that speedo shot! (I'm not talking bananna hamic either! )
Great looking weather!
Great Pics man!! thanks for sharing! wish we could have been there...
OMG that was a ton of fun!
Those twisties and that run at 120 mph damn near scared the out of me! (remember, I was riding with SLITS and being chased by Elvira! )
But I wouldn't have traded it for anything! )
Ron and I stayed the night at Avi with Joe and Linda. Joe was having fuel problems in the party boat. He replaced a part the next morning and we followed him for a while until it started acting up again.
It was great meeting everyone!
Thanks everyone for the pics. Hope to post more soon!
I had a great time. I've always wanted to drive some of Route 66. I'll post my pics tomorrow night. I just got home a little over an hour ago.
Liz, I'll bring your cooler to you when we head down to New Mexico next month. That will give me an excuse to check out your progress on the 914. I'm finishing off the Red Rye right now. Thanks!
Linda! I forgot to say good-bye! I felt very bad. I almost turned around and came back. Luv ya!
Those of you that wussed out... missed out.
these cars go 120? wait a minute... my car would take like 20 miles to get up to that.... hmmm
Gint - Glad to see that you made it home safely.
My pics are http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=34&t=33191&st=0, in the past events forum.
