914World.com _ Past Event Planning Threads _ An Idea I think I can do.

Posted by: rick 918-S Feb 9 2004, 07:42 PM

I thought about putting together a map for the web site with locations for road side assitance for the people attempting to attend from across the country. I have a mapping software that I can put push pins on with addresses. Some one will have to help me send the file to up load to the page though. I'm not very saavy.

I have the gathering of info figured out: I thought I would post a request for names, numbers, and addresses of people and businesses willing to assist and then have it nailed. Responses could be made to me by PM. I could then add the info to my map for about 30 days the we could direct members to the web site.

Would this be helpful and possible to ad to the web page?

I'll delete this message in a day or so. I don't want to start too many topics.

Great idea!

Can you mail me a sample of what ever it is that the software produces, that way I can check how easy/hard it is to put into a website

cheers,

Jeroen

Thanks Jeroen, I'll play with it tonight. I know I can save the map as a file of some kind and re-open it later. I'm not sure of the file size or how it will attach to an email. If it works it could be a nice addition to the site.

Hey Rich,

I just recieved the map by e-mail
Sad news is that I can't open it with any kind of software I have on my computer...
My guess is that it only works with the map-software you are using

Is the map software freeware/shareware?
How big is it?
Maybe we can put both the map and the software as a download on the site

cheers,

Jeroen

The program is Microsoft Streets & Trips. I own the software. If I mail it to you can we legally use it on the site?

I can also print the maps and the scan them back in and save it in some kind of file that I can attach as an email. We have some time for this so I'll try it tomorrow.

If that is a bad idea I'll just gather the info from the board and send you a text file state by state. We'll just need to up it up as a text page.

Do a screen grab (ctrl + PrtSc) then open up your graphic software. Create a new image the size of your desktop (1024x768 etc..) then paste in the screen grab. Now you can save as a jpg and send it to Jeroen.

Ok,

Can you take the file from here? I'm not sure how I did What I just did but as you can see I can add info to the push pin flag. I could do this over the whole route with businesses and members willing to lend assistance. The map will be several pages.

Here is a map with the locations highlighted for the Auto-X (at Candlestick) and Car Show (in Hayward). One of the tours planned is for Monterey. If you double the size of this map, it would be at the bottom.

I'm starting to get a few responses for the maps. Not too many yet though. A couple in the area of the steep climb on I 70 though. That's really important.
