Evening folks.....
Just a quick question.... I know when I buy something through Ebay... I always pay immediately... usually because I'm constantly hitting "refresh" waiting for my snipe to kick in. Anyway... I sold a relatively inexpensive item recently..... about 40 bucks.... no biggy. The auction ended Monday at about 6pm. By wednesday night, I had no payment, so I wrote the buyer a polite "reminder" letter, asking her if perhaps she was maiiling a check instead. Her response was: "Sorry... I'll paypal you on Friday" 5 days? Is there a "rule" that limits the amount of time you can wait before paying someone? Not to mention.... its 8:40 pm on Friday and I still havent been paid. What would you do? When do I give up and offer it to 2nd chance bidders? When do I report her to Ebay? Thanks. Matt |

ebay does something dumb like make you wait 30 days until you can file.
reminder letter.....as long as they pay on friday i think it would be okay.... for example, I have been trying to get a small box to ship something in that somebody bought from me.....i just found a NAPA box and the part is going out on friday. but i dont ship until $$ is there....if they dont pay, negative feedback and file a claim. b |

For me it's right after auction. Or 3 days later is ok, but right after auction seems best.

Actually, it's only Thursday. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) I wish it was already Fri. evening too. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
Seven days would be the deadline for me, unless I had heard from the buyer and they had indicated that they would be sending a MO or something. |

In my auctions I always state:
If payment is not received, or other arrangements regarding payment made, within 10 working days after close of auction a non-paying bidder alert will be filed. |

I always pay immediately as well, so it's hard to figure why someone would bid and expect to pay later.
The way you handled it was fine. I agree that if she pays when she said she would, that's cool. In the future you might want to think about including your payment expectations in your description. |

what were your payment terms specified in your ad? if none, they'd be whatever EBay sets as a default. |

I just bought a fairly large item (75 gallon fishtank, and all the associated stuff) from a guy down in LA on monday. I was planning on paying w/ dead presidents when i picked it up. He asked me on wednesday why he hadn't recieved anything from paypal yet... So i paypaled him, he can pay the fees, not my problem (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
Just a minor mis-understanding in this case (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) BJH |

At one point I was reported for not paying within 4 days (waiting for the paycheck deal). I got 3 notices from ebay for non-payment. This seller was relentless... Oh well...

I've gone a month... waiting for money.
it was a very strange deal... I sent the guy some rear tail lenses.... Packed them in the box best they could be! Nice crumpled paper ect... I shook it a couple times and stuff and the lenses did NOT move. It would have to be squished by a 100lb box to break. It was my first ebay auction and I wanted good feedback... Sent the item, guy recieves it, and is pissed... The lenses are in a hundred pieces (suposedly). I got 60 bucks for the lenses... insured them for 100... THe guy was nice about it and all... but something happened and that box was CRUSHED.... Im patient... As long as the guy tells me he's gona pay.. and its not over 200 bucks... Then I can wait... I dont live off of the ebay auctions, so Im patient... lol but I pay imediately as well.... |

I don't do ebay that much lately but bought/sold quite a bit in past years -- IMO 1-3 days is a perfectly fine payment window and I don't begin to get uptight until 5-7 days. At the 3-4 day mark I would certainly send a friendly reminder just to make sure the original notice/invoice was received OK. Had my share a flake bidders when I was doing a fair amount of selling.

What is her feedback like? If she has relatively good feedback I would give her the benefit of the doubt and wait a little for payment. After all you don't have to ship until she pays so you aren't out anything. If she has little to no feedback or even poor feedback I would pressure her a bit more for payment and maybe give her a week or so - especially since it's such a small dollar amount.

I always pay within 24 hours, usually minutes after the auction close.
I always specify in my ads... payment arrangements made within 24 hours of auction close. If no payment made within 7 days, item gets re-listed and non-paying bidder stuff gets filed with eBay. |

I believe 10 days is the standard set by Ebay as long as you been contacted by the buyer within 2 days from auction end. I however pay instantly and hate when others wait until they take a cash advance from work or take the cash from there kids piggybank!

Each seller expects something different. I state in most of my auctions 10 days, which seems to be the standard.

As long as the buyer responds to my e-mails I'll pretty much give him as long as it takes. It's the ones that don't respond to any e-mails that you know you have a problem.

Back in the olden days of ebay, it wasn't uncommon to wait days for payment. There weren't no fancy-fangled paypal and we had to walk uphill both ways with a block of ice to the post office to get our money orders and put them in the mail.
If they have contacted you, they have done the right thing so far. I am sure they are waiting for a paycheck. |
