purchased this car last night for the sum of $400. here's the good, bad and ugly.
1975 1.8 rear trunk, no rust. front trunk/gas tank area. no rust. pass door. $%*#@ speakers! no cracks in dash or targa pad. ouch. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) broken windshield. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) engine bay, including many leaves, spiders and probably mice. but... no rust that i can find (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) hell hole. surface rust, no holes. battery tray has surface rust but only pinholes. beneath pass jack point, looks good. a very creative muffler repair (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

so that's the story. since rust issues are very, very minor, i think i'll restore it rather than part it. first on the list is getting the engine started. it turns, but doesn't fire. next: the windshield i think. comments, suggestions and pointers welcome.

You know what I want to say here. . . . . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/monkeydance.gif)
It looks great. I realize you cant swing a dead cat out on the left coast without hitting a clean teener selling for $5, but that looks like a clean one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) I wouldn't loose any sleep over the windshield. Very manageable do it yourself gig, or about 3 bills if you have to pay somebody. |

QUOTE(sanman @ Dec 13 2004, 10:19 AM) does I run? Turn over ? whats the deal with the engine yes, it's a 75 and it doesn't run. that presented us with some rather interesting logistical opportunities in trying to get it on the trailer. engine does turn, but doesn't fire. most of the electrical seems to work though. other details can be found on this thread. i wasn't sure what kind of orange it would be, but i think like it... ~a |

Very good score! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) I like the Folgers muffler. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Be careful when removing the trim pieces for the windshield. They bend reallyl, really easily. (I bent most of mine a couple of months ago removing them)

(I bent most of mine a couple of months ago removing them) thankfully that won't be an issue, as most of the pieces appear to be missing already (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) the story behind the windshield is that the po was entering a parking area, and didn't notice a chain stretched across the entrance to keep cars out. the car is so short that the chain it hit the pass. side of the windshield. looks like the car wasn't driven much after that... ~a |

Looks like a 1.8. I had a 75 1.8 that turned over, had spark at the plugs..but wouldn't fire. Here are some easy things to check on the ljets:
1. first, see if the injectors are firing, all you have to do is turn the engine on, with the distributer cap off open/close the points (don't use metal!)...you should hear the injectors clicking on/off 2. Is the fuel pump running? Fuel pump on the 1.8l's only run when air is passing through the MAF. If you don't hear the pump run while cranking, remove the air cleaner and push the flap in the MAF open..you should hear the fuel pump turn on. If it doesn't, check the fuel pump relay and check that you are getting 12v to the pump 3. also possible if you are not getting gas..that the flap in the MAF is stuck closed (they can do this from sitting). 5. If the pump is running and the MAF flap is free...your injectors maybe clogged. Squirt alittle starter fluid in the air cleaner box and see if you get some chugging...if you do either injectors are clogged, fuel line somewhere is clogged Jim |

The windshield is super easy to replace and a good used one is only about $100. If I remember, I'll take a bunch of pictures when I put in my next windshield later this week.

That's a beautiful car for the money and then some, and a really smart looking pair of seats! I recently picked one up for $300.00 here on the East coast, but your's is WAY! WAY!! WAY!!! nicer than mine wil be when it DONE! Let alone right now . . .
"yes, it's a 75 and it doesn't run. that presented us with some rather interesting logistical opportunities in trying to get it on the trailer." We always put in a fresh battery and crank the starter in first gear, the car chugs right up the ramps no problem. Luck, TC |

no idea, i'm open to opinion on that one. it's banged up pretty good, and i'm afraid the lip won't come out right, since that's probably the trickiest part. i'm very handy, but have no experience with auto repair really. i have a hunch i'm about to learn quickly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ~a |
