I know most of the basic stuff and have read most of "the books" but what I don't know are the quality and drivabillity differnces.

I like the early cars bacause of the stationary passenger seat with dog bone and the early chrome bumpers. I like the later cars for the 'smoother' bumpers and few refinements. Which would make the better (street only) driver?

My desktop righ now is a dark green big bumper car with plaid seats and a woman putting the top in the trunk. I think I like that car.

What would you prefer to drive daily?

Dave,

If you like all the cars, then the best car for a daily driver is the cleanest, rust-free one you can find.

The earlier, lighter car. But that's my preference.

A lot of people like the notion of a minor parking-lot boo-boo not causing $1500 worth of damage, so they opt for the late "crash bumper" cars. But others don't like the way the Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers look, or the extra weight, so...

Realistically, I think the "best" answer is "the one with the least rust"...

Yeah...
personally, I dig the early chrome bumpers- pretty cool.
But the single-seater deal sort of sucks.
I converted my 70' to 2 'real' seats.
BUT the side-shifter is also a BIG bonus if you can find one along with the 2 liter.
So 73' 74' is probably the best years all around if you ask me.

I prefer one with the least rust and the most options! Love the appearance and sport option on a 2.0L car. Early 73 2.0l "S" cars come to mind.
My 76 had the big bumpers which is great when its more of a daily driver as the stupid SUV drivers like to backup until they feel a thunk, great with the 5 mph bumpers. If you have the early chrome ones this can be expensive since the lady in the SUV just drove away as you came out of the store, now you have a big dent in you new chrome bumper from her bike hitch!

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, you're right about the best being the one with the least rust.

I want this one though...

What's wrong with the pant's? Granted the pic would be more interesting without them.

I like the inserts too. Hell if you're going to drive a homely car, you might as well go all the way with the '70s look. I wonder if I could get a Gordon or royal Stuart tartan?

A six would be nice, but not as a daily driver in MA. I do have some concience.
