If you have one of these would you mind posting a photo of it?
I need to see one of these and neither of my cars has one. There should be a sticker of some kind with the letters 'HO' and a few other markings, placed on the inner fenderwell inside front trunk on the passenger side next to the VIN number. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) PS: All 914/4s should have one of these. Know what it is? |

The HO sticker is what the dealers placed on cars that were serviced under the "HO Recall Campaign".

Applied rust seeds in the tightest places. As soonas you added water well you know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/alfred.gif)

The HO campaign included a battery cover and new fuel injector hoses. The old hoses (little curved jobbers between the fuel rail and crimped to the injectors) were covered with cloth on the outside. It made an excellent wick in case of a fuel leak. (Think... Coleman Gasoline Lantern) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Rusty is right on. Thanks!
All 914/4s were to have had the recall work performed, and then get a sticker. All engien bay fuel lines were to be repalced, a new battery cover - with strap - was to be installed. The battery cover had its own warning label sticker attached. Anyone have a photo of the large battery cover sticker? How about the strap on the new battery cover? The campaign says it affects about 83,000 vehicles...(in itself an interesting statement). This campaign was brought about by USA safety laws...implying that any ROW vehicels would not be affected. Could this indicate that there were 83,000 914/4s imported to the USA? I have never seen one of these fenderwell stickers. That either means the stickers fell off or were removed, or the car was never taken in for the recall work to be done. The recall work has no time limit to be performed: "It is the dealers responsibility to service all vehicles subject to this campaign regardless of mileage or ownership from this time forward." Has anyone recently tried to get this work done at a dealer? There were 10 recall campaigns for 914s over the years I just learned from a book I just received. |

I remember reading about the recalls, but never knew it was called "HO"
There were 6 recalls for the 1970 model: PORSCHE CAMPAIGN NO T-30/72 PA. POSSIBILITY THAT THE PROPER ASSEMBLYPROCEDURES WERE NOT FOLLOWED IN AFFIXING THE INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO THEWINDSHIELD. IF THIS OCCURS THE MIRROR CAN SEPARATE FROM THE WINDSHIELD SURFACEWITHOUT WARNING. (CORRECT BY INSPECTING ANDAFFIX MIRROR PROPERLY WHERENECESSARY. ) POSSIBILITY THAT RETAINING BOLTS FOR STEERING GEAR AND LOCK RINGS MAY LOOSENUNDER CONTINUED DRIVING. IF THIS HAPPENS, COULD SERIOUSLY IMPAIR STEERINGCONTROL. (CORRECT BY INSTALLING NEW BOLTS AND LOCK RINGS.) THE BATTERY COVERS ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY BE MISSING, DAMAGED, OR IMPROPERLY INSTALLED. THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW WATER TO CONTACT THE TOP OF THE BATTERY AND MIX WITH ACID. THIS MIXURE COULD CAUSE THE FUEL HOSES TO DETERIORATE AND LEAD TO FUEL LEAKAGE. Consequence: Remedy: DEALER WILL INSTALL A NEW BATTERY COVER AND HOLD DOWN CLAMP, AND REPLACE ALL FUEL HOSES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER. POSSIBILITY THAT SEAT LOCK ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM MAY, UNDER EXTREME LOADING OFSEAT, FAIL TO HOLD SEAT IN FIRM POSITION. (CORRECT BY REPLACING WITH IMPROVEDLOCK MECHANISM.) POSSIBILITY THAT FUEL LINE CONNECTIONS AND FUEL FILTER MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLYSECURED DURING AS- SEMBLY, WHICH COULD CAUSE SMALL QUANTITIES OF FUEL TOESCAPE. ALSO, FUEL LINES OF FUEL INJECTORS FOR RIGHT BANK OF CYLINDERS MAY INSOME INSTANCES HAVE BECOME DE- TERIORATED AS A RESULT OF ELECTROLYTE DRIPPINGFROM BATTERY. (CORRECT BY MODIFYING AS REQUIRED.) POSSIBILITY THAT RETAININGBOLT FOR FRONT AXLE SUB-FRAME MAY HAVE BEEN OVERTIGHTENED DURING ASSEM- BLY.(CORRECT BY REPLACING WHERE NECESSARY.) PORSCH/AUDI CAMPAIGN NO BG. POSSIBILITY THAT BUCKLE MAY TWIST ON INBOARDPORTION OF SEAT BELT WHEN SEAT IS ADJUSTED TO MOST REARWARD POSITION. THENON-ADJUSTABLE INBOARD PORTION OF THE SAFETY BELT ASSEMBLY IS TOO LONG TO ALLOWA PERFECT TRIANGULAR ARRANGEMENT OF THE LAP AND SHOULDER BELT. IT MAY CAUSEPASSENGER DISCOMFORT AND AFFECT SEAT BELT USAGE. (CORRECT BY INSTALLINGSHORTER BELT TO ALLOW PROPER POSITIONING OF SHOULDER BELT BUCKLE WHEN DRIVER'SSEAT IS ADJUSTED IN REARWARD POSITION. ) You can check out recalls HERE |

QUOTE(GWN7 @ Jun 28 2004, 08:14 AM) THENON-ADJUSTABLE INBOARD PORTION OF THE SAFETY BELT ASSEMBLY IS TOO LONG TO ALLOWA PERFECT TRIANGULAR ARRANGEMENT OF THE LAP AND SHOULDER BELT. I knew that was the case on my car, I guess it never went for the recall. Those early belts were ridiculous, the connect point ends up on the middle of your stomach. I put in VW non-retractables that can adjust on both ends. Plus they're non-aged. |

QUOTE(bowlsby @ Jun 28 2004, 05:01 AM) The recall work has no time limit to be performed: I am SO tempted to roll my stripped unibody onto a flatbed with all it's parts in boxes and take it down to the dealership. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I've got the braided cloth fuel lines... They're in a box around here somewhere labeled "fool injection". |

I can certainly agree on the belts. I still have a set in my '71, and I'm debating whether to fit different three-point belts, or just install a set of four-points and be done with it. Didn't know about the VW non-retractables (I hate retractable belts). Where these for a Bug or an early Rabbit or ?

The seatbelt recall only applied to certain early cars and was merely an exchange for the female end portion of the belt...with a slightly shorter belt....something like 10mm shorter was all.

I once again hate to be the voice of damping enthuisasim, but when I first got my 914, I ran the vin on the Porsche factory computer and got all the info that you would get on the kardex. I also saw that under the campaign information there was an open recall..HO.. <_< I spend many days bugging the warrenty admin. to call Porsche and find out what this was. I was then told that it wasn't an active recall anymore, and my car wasn't entitled. I did however dig through the tech books and found the workshop step by step of the recall. It does have pictures of all the parts, and the correct stickers. Jeff, I'll make new copies tomorrow, and then scan them in so you can see it in all it's glory. Unfortunately, I don't think we're gonna have much luck getting the recall on any cars as the factory doesn't consider it an active recall at this point
