I would like to see some pictures or links to...
I want to know what I'm up against. Fab or buy? That is the question. Does anyone make a mount that attaches or utilizes the four mount? KT |

I don't know of anyone that makes a 6 cyl adapter for the 4 cylinder crossbar.
Go with Rich Johnson's engine mount. The firewall engine mount has advantages over all crossbar mounts. Yes, it will cost you more, but it will take about the same time to install as it would to try and fabricate something. In the grand scheme of things regarding a six conversion, a couple hundred bucks isn't going to matter. Yes, you can fab lots of parts yourself and save money, but how professional will it look? If that's not important then you do have room to cut corners. All of my customers want the car to end up looking like it came from the factory. Let me know if I can help in anyway. BTW, I'm going to pm you, I've got a tile quesiton. PK (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) |

All tile questions are welcome!
I need pix. "function before fashion"( FBF ) some have said. I don't care what people see if there crawling under my car or happen to be around while the motor is out. I'm not suggesting I'm a hack-butcher either. I like making stuff. Don't care how long it takes if it was fun and kept my attention. KT |

Here's my "homemade" 914-6 mount. Its welded to the bulkhead. Has a wider stance the the RJ mount. Its made from some 911 parts.

The already converted Six I used to own had a mount bar that bolted to the stock Four mounting points, and was an excellent demonstration of why this is a bad idea. It was a straight across tube, like the early Four mount, but with cutouts so the heat exchangers would just barely fit. You had to bolt on the HEs, then the crossbar to the engine, then lift the whole thing onto the car. You could NOT remove the HEs w/o removing the mount bar first. Very bad idea. I don't know who made this bar, but I don't believe it's available anymore.
The Patrick motorsports mount bar doesn't appear to have any room for 914/6 HEs, you can only use headers. I've heard some bad stories about this bar (early examples broke, and he wouldn't refund or replace the items). If you're trying to use 914/6 HEs, use a firewall mount. If you're using headers, use a firewall mount, anyway. |

A lot of the 2.0l race cars are using the new mount from Patrick in Phoenix. We used it on my conversion and it fits against the bottom of the firewall and between two raised boses on the outside. It uses hard rubber mounts so you need sport mounts in the rear. We added welds later after some driving.

The RJ mount looks good, and strong.
How much is that and are there any other mods that are required to run. Shifter, etc. I will run headers so HE's are out. KT |

Forgot... I have a late 74 tub that I used it on. The only mods I had to make were to remove the P-valve and pick the mount off the body (late 74-76 style p-valve mount). I also got a set of rear brake lines from a early 74 car starting with the adapter at the end of the center tunnel line.
I'll try to post a step-by-step. I think I have the pictures. |
