Well it has been a wierd wild ride so far with my project. I left my car in TJ for the flares on a Sunday. By the time I got home I had a call asking me to come back down the following Monday to make sure the vision their welder had and the vision that I had were the same......they were not. The welder cut my rear fender about two inches around the wheel well and put a straight four inch piece of metal coming out perpendicular with the 2' piece attached on to that. It looked like a shelf around my wheel....really F-ing ugly. I didnt freak, though. I just remembered that I know where to get a free set of good fenders to fix this mistake. I brought them a picture of my wants and then explained how to do it. They asked me to come back the next day to inspect. I was nervous, but when I returned I found what I wanted. It cost me $990 ($90 was tax) for the flares, and for them to weld in my engine mount for the six. It prolly would have been cheaper if some dirty tail dragger with cash haddent given them the idea that we "all" have money (James)(IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) The price was still good though. The only thing that needs to be attended to now is evening up the contours. I will be buying a contour gauge to show them how to allign everything> this will not cost anything extra...just time.

Fronts are slightly flared and you can barely notice. They also fixed a crushed front fender that some POS did while it was parked.

So did you take off your 1/4 panels and replace them with ones from a donor car?

Nope, it turns out that the best way I could see to get the flares I wanted was to cut the two inches around, weld the ends back on, cut the fenders to spread, bend the cut piece out as far as you need, and then add metal. Worked like a charm. The guy could have fixed what he did originally, so I wasnt worried. This shop does work miracles.

Looks Great!! Do you have any pictures showing the cuts and the rewelds prior to the car going to Mexico? I'd like to see exactly how you did it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

that is a sweet understated look. nicely envisioned, and you had the ability to lead someone to translate that vision into steel. very cool indeed!

oh, post more pics as it progresses!

Lou,
all of the work was done in Mexico. I just had to explain how exactly I wanted it done. I unfortunately did not take any pics during the process...it was a rough week. As soon as I get my engine in a nd running I will return for a final sizing of my flared fenders, and paint (IMG:style_emoticons/default/monkeydance.gif)

I definitley like the almost stock look to the flaring. What kind of wheel and tire combination are you planning to run? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Just like this. I love this look (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) Same wheels, 9" with 255 in back and 7.5" with 225 in front. No spacers needed if you use the 23mm and 17mm offset ones.

Man mike, that's pretty classy looking.

It's going to seem out of place with you driving it but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Good job!
