Ok the saga continues! Turns out my oil leak seems to be coming from the hole next to the carbs. It's on the passenger side & sits on the rear behind the carb. This usually has a hoase on it with the FI. After switching to the carb it was left just plain open. Where do I run the hose & should it be plugged. Also the secon one is next to where you add the oil. What do I do there? Just run the hose where? Thanks guys don't have my haynes in front of me!

Goin out on a limb here, but, I believe it is part of the positive crankcase ventilation system and runs from the valve cover to the flashback valve. Should be one on the driver's side too. Maybe run it to a breather box since I think in the FI system it ends up in the plenum

With carbs you need a breather box. Kevin (Rhodyguy) in Washington has a nice picture of one installed. Mail him direct and maybe he can send pic.
VW parts stores have them. Bugpack makes one and it comes in a kit with hoses, $29 I think. You want one with four nipples, 3 in (one from each valve cover and one from breather by oil fill) and one out. There is a filter in the box which should catch oil. The "out" hose can be vented down through the engine tin. |

Jamie, do a search for "breather". There is a thread called "this close Geoff" with a picture of Kevin's engine. The box is the small aluminum rectangle on the left. Also a thread I started "plumbing question 2" will show up and is all about this topic.

I have the other side at home. GOt the euro kit from Craig. Stated switching them out one night. Got one done & had a kid catastraphy. So I had to quite that night. COmpletely forgot about until I was looking at the pics. I thought IDIOT! Yes I am but only 95% of the time. The other 5% is my life not involving my914 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

my box has 3 fittings. one to the fill tower and one each to the tubes on the heads. just dumping the resid through the tin and out makes for a big mess. there is a foam block in the box that traps the fumes. watch the elevation of the tubes, try to avoid ups and downs. let gravity do the work. i've been thinking i may need a pcv valve inbetween the tower and the box too. car's packed leaving for cal in 15 min. back in a week or so. taped firesign theater and pink floyd cd's last night. groovy.

I just called the VW autocraft store in Salem. They have the breather box kit. A whopping $32 bucks. I think I can handle that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) . So I'll go get it tommorow & throw it on! I am loving running around in the Leech again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
