If it runs for $600 Ben, then it's a steal for a great handling little Porsche! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

88 is a good year for 944's. $600 is even better

they drive great and are a real bargain these days. Too bad so many were abused and now we have straight rust free bodies that need everything else, and 944 parts are not cheap, AND Porsche is discontinuing all of the parts, cannot even get a front usa turn signal lens or a right rear tail light!!!!! Still a bargain if everything is there, I have been driving an 85.2 automatic for the last month or so to keep my 914 out of the rain we have here all winter!

Since my dad's first Porsche was a 1987 944 Turbo, or 951 if you prefer, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for them. As much as I want to get a 914, I may have to "settle" for a 944 if I find a decent one. I of course regret not buying my dad's when he "upgraded" to a 993 cab.

Congrats to your son!

I've watch 944's time and time again out corner 911's. Well balanced and a little brute of an engine.

My son's first car was an '83 944 inherited from MY dad (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
Took about $1000 or so to get it roadworthy. He drove the wheels off it for a couple years til an oil seal went out and got into the coolant. Decided it was too costly to repair so sold the car.

Congrats to your son! I’m actually looking for a decent one now
for my son. My Uncle had a 944S back in the day. 16 valve is what I believe the S
Model had. Good luck.

Len Commings / Boxter GT, has a crapload of 944 parts at his shop. Rob at DC Automotive does too. Call them if you need something specific.

My son’s first car was/is an $800 ‘86 944. It’s a great little car. Handles really well, not too much power, with an LSD and snow tires, it even makes a decent winter car.

Good luck with it. There’s a lot of 944 guys over at Pelican. Also, check out Clark’s Garage for how-to’s on just about everything that can be fixed. Porsche sold a lot of these, so parts are still out there.
