So me and my shop guys were able to get it the engine to turn over and I am so so so happy. Now I don't need a new engine, probably just needs a tune up kit on it.
Now below is my google gallery. Now I know there is quite a bit of rust, and thats okay, Im just tired of heading discouragement from non believers! since the 1.8 L engine runs, I wont be EJ20 swapping it, I am going to be keeping it original. but hey here is the videos of me getting it to run with my shop guys and the gallery Keizei's 914 Google Drive Folder Link>> [CLICK ME] |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) Good Job on getting it started! Probably fuel pump will help, but if you need a rebuild kit for that carb, call these guys (this page may be the needed kit):

Dallas TX. Nice! I grew up between Dallas, Denton, and Lake Texoma, and some of my family still lives on the lake.
I'm glad you got it running! Can you weld? Where your car is rusted is a BAD spot (if I have interpreted your pictures correctly), and common. Those are the longs, and they are the literal backbone for the car. Before you start driving it, you need to probe and find out how rusted it really is. Our cars will literally fold in half when the longs rust enough. Yours isn't there yet, but I'd get it fixed before driving it. Zach |

I plan on just replacing the entire longitudinal and all that is rusted anyway. I think I sourced one online that should work? 914 Passenger Long >>CLICK ME>> But yeah For sure its getting fixed before that! |

You will probably need the inner long, outer long, inner wheelhouse, rear floor pans, and inner suspension console. That should get you started. What you see is about 20% of the rust. Not trying to bash you, its just experience with these cars.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) How these cars were made, battery acid leaked onto a low point on the passenger side long, pooled there, and over the past 40 years ate the metal to bits. Fixing this area is an involved job, but many of our members have done it in thier garage - learning to weld at the same time. I learned to weld fixing the same area of my car (though it was not nearly as rough as yours). Zach |

Not trying to bash you, its just experience with these cars. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Plus some fabrication of parts not readily available or try to get the whole chunk of what you need from a donor. I was able to patch my inner long but it was a lot of work. Take heart, your car looks to be in similar condition as mine when I finally dove in for the resto. Thirty years of discouragement from nonbelievers is probably what saved my car. Spite can be a great motivator (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-20845-1513794304.jpg) That spot repaired before the jack point went back on. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-20845-1506041831.jpg) And here's a recent pic taken about 18 months later (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-20845-1540170873_thumb.jpg) You can check out my build thread to see how a clueless idiot tackled a project of this size, or check out Jeff Hail's Bring Out Your Dead thread in the rebuild forum to learn from someone who knows what they are doing. Also, read through the various build threads from @cary . He provides lots of detail of repairs that are a treasure trove to learn from. Congrats on getting the engine running. Good luck and keep posting your progress! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Primitive Holley fuel injection. haha. I understand the sickness and wish you luck. You have a long rewarding road ahead of you. I love to see these cars saved. Hope to follow your progress getting this back on the road! I won't be a negative Nancy, I think you know what you're in for. On a positive note, you are starting with a blank canvas, and can do anything you want with it. PS. I know a Suby swap would transform my DD, but there is a charm about these little air cooled cars that I would miss if I did. |

NO!! I do not believe you need THAT $300 part - the item you linked to is a PASSENGER's COMPARTMENT item (the vertical metal next to the passenger's seat). Your problem is on the outside of the car. BTW, remember - "outter long" just refers to the outter most covering (you have plastic porsche script ones), inner long is the pieces under that cover. It's more confusing than it should be. Anyway.. IF...IF you find that the WHOLE right-side long needs to be replaced (I kind of doubt), then these are the items you need: http://www.restoration-design.com/store/product/PP301R = $125 [May find this not necessary] http://www.restoration-design.com/store/product/PP331 = $165 [Definitely Need] Perhaps you could replace just the PP331 and add the following on top of it for extra stiffening: http://www.restoration-design.com/store/product/PP346R = $210 [Not necessary but..] Besides the above you'll also NEED: http://www.restoration-design.com/store/product/PP302 = $13 http://www.restoration-design.com/store/product/PP303 = $16 http://www.restoration-design.com/store/product/PP342R = $65 |

Take pictures of everything and post them. Ask for honest opinions. The challenge of rebuilding a 914, MONEY/time/skills, is not for everyone. The first picture link did not work for me so I have no idea how steep or long the path is.
