Spare tire hold down. You can put a spare tire there and secure it with the same threaded thing you use in the front trunk ...

Was this 75-76 only or all years? - To move the spare to the rear if you need more space in the front - Yes, you could carry 2 spares that way too - Yes, the roof still fits unless you have a very wide rim and tire. I have a full size 7" rim with a 225/50 tire and the roof still fits, albeit barely. - All years (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

That is amazing info for this rookie!
I'm just finishing my SBC powered 76. I DRIVE my cars and since the radiator and hoses occupy much of the frunk eliminating the spot for a spare, I've been a little discouraged to take a road trip in this car. This info solves that problem! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) When I finished my Rover aluminum V8/T5 MGB I did a 2400 mile road trip to California. Good times. I want to do the same with this 914. Having a spare along gives me more confidence to do it! Thanks again. Why? To carry 2 spares? To create space up front to turn it into a proper beer cooler! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) |

If you have a flared car, it’s a good place to fit the wide wheel that probably won’t fit the front. Especially if your spare is a space saver.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) I've owned my car for 43 years and never knew that! Just goes to show you that you can learn something every day. Especially from the World forum. Dave |
