Hey all,
Is anyone out there running a crank fire ignition with the stock fan setup? Where and how did you mount the pick up and triger wheel? How sturdy is it? Pictures would be fantastic! Thanks! -Josh2 |

I've got an SDS crankfire...PITA on a T4 but it works good.
Search SDS and my name...you might find it...I never can. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif) BTW if I was to do it over I'd cut down a 911 pulley (use it instead of the hub spacer) for the trigger wheel. |

airsix is running a hall-effect (magnetic) setup he made by attaching the magnets to the belt pulley. Mark Henry has a hall-effect setup that uses a disc he made to replace the spacer behind the fan (between the fan and the hub), and mounted the sensor to the back side of the fan housing. Dave Hunt made a similar setup using an EDIS 36-1 toothed wheel.
For the Electromotive 60-2 toothed wheel, I'd say the behind the fan approach is the most promising. It will require that you make a wheel or an adapter so the spacer thickness is the same as stock. Dave Hunt's setup allowed the VR sensor to slide along an arc he milled into the fan housing for adjustment. A search will find photos (DNHunt, EDIS). Note that the wheel, if you fabricate one, has to be made of ferrous material, or the sensor won't see the teeth. |

I am not running the stock set-up, but here is what I did to mount the sensor and wheel.

Britain,
Nice looking setup there. However, I put the fan conversion project on hold and am planning on using the stock fan and fan shrouds. So far it looks like mounting the trigger wheel on the back of the fan might be the best way to go. Then it's a matter of pick-up location. Hmm.... -Josh2 |

A trigger wheel to replace something else? Where and how does it mount?
I don't want to call AJ unless I've got a solid idea what about. -Josh2 |

How 'bout drilling the flywheel for the magnets and using the engine case flange to mount the pickup?

The Electromotive setup doesn't use magnets, it uses a steel toothed wheel with a VR sensor, and only works with a 60-2 missing tooth wheel. Putting magnets on the flywheel for an SDS, Perfect Power, or MS ignition setup using a Hall sensor is doable, as you only need 3 magnets. Attaching the VR sensor to the back of the fan housing produces a very tidy setup. Search for Dave Hunt's photos on his EDIS setup, and I'm sure you'll agree. |

Make sure you keep at least one back up sensor with the car. The electromotive sensors are known to die prematurely.

-That's- what I was looking for!!
How stable was the mount? Any need for tweeking it once it was in? Looks pretty close to what I had in mind. Cool... Is the trigger mount custom? Or is it commercially available from someone? -Josh2 |

I second the pickup problems, use an MSD.
They had a lot of problems, I think the larger diameter Electromotive is improved? |
