Hi everyone! I have a tube frame 914 that I'm putting a 993 3.6 in and a G50 trans to go with it. I have read lots of old threads on NOT flipping the G50 for use in a 914 but was hoping for some advice.

I understand that flipping the diff is just too hard and have heard that to flip the entire trans requires cutting bell housings off etc.

My question is, why can I not simply fill the old holes, build up the case a bit, and drill new holes? They only need to move 1/4".

Hey Jim.

I was "forewarned" that you where heading this way from Rennlist.

Do exactly like your thinking and fill the current holes and redrill.

Typically we shorten the bellhousing also... if you dont ..then end of the tranny ends up almost hanging out the back of the car (even with your Sheridan body kit).

The other thing you need to do.. equalize the gear lube. Run a line from the diff area to the nosecone. If you dont .. more of the gear lube will sit in the nose cone area than in the diff area.

Remind me later.. and I will show you a pic of one upside down.

Thanks guys!

Nice to E-meet you Brad! Ok, one more little idea, since the starter shares one of the studs I thought why not leave that one alone? And it so happens that the upper right stud and the starter stud still line up!

So my idea is to leave the two right hand studs as they are AND get this, it is easier to ADD two new studs to the engine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif) than even touch the trans! The 993 has room, I just need to build up a little area for each stud cuz the case has recesses just behind where the stud pokes through.

The only issue I see is that the tranny will be a few degrees off of level. So I will just mount the engine a little bit the other way. I figure that the back and forth of a race will negate any problems. Besides, my fat ass tips the car over anyway!

What do ya think!

Hey Geoff,

We autocross at a local circle track call Western Speedway, and several large parking lots in town.

Thanks for the ebay link Mark, nice tranny, I would definately go there if I did not have the G50.

I have made a temporary stud (needs welding around it for strength) and bolted the trans on. And am fitting in the car now.

how can you not invision that?

A new rear housing with gears to change the direction to transmit the power forward (similar to the latest generation of AWD mid-engine Lambos)

Maybe my problem is that I have never smoked anything stronger than a Kool cigerette (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
