Here's my first 914, a used 1975 1.8L L-jet for $1800 back in Sept '96:
(IMG:http://www.icbm.org/erkson/personal/tobys914.gif)
Loved the car and did some work to it. Then did a very bad thing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)
(IMG:http://www.icbm.org/erkson/personal/sides.jpg)
More info about her here.

Now last week I bought a rough 1973 2.0L D-jet (original engine/car was a 1.7L) with an oil leak (PO says it's the oil cooler seals) that was originally a metallic lime-green but currently has a cheap-ass yellow overcoat (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Rust holes in the body due to the infamous battery location but the interior is sweet. She will be my project car and I'm looking forward to working on her. Luckily, I salvaged almost my entire wrecked 914 before scraping her (please don't razz me, I'm kicking myself in the butt about that daily) so I have some rubber and stuff to put on my "new" 914 (like a rebuilt tranny and shifter & PORSCHE rear reflector). No pictures yet but they'll be coming.

Here's my original pride-n-joy that got me into air-cooled dubs (recognize the nose, Mark?):
(IMG:http://www.icbm.org/erkson/personal/BABY1.jpg)
A 1972 Squareback (a.k.a. Type III) originally owned by my parents. Hi-perf 2.0L w/5-speed. This engine, were I to swap it with the 914 (a 'cool' swap in the T3 world) would make the 914 an insurance risk (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dance.gif)

Looking forward to pickin' all yer brains as I start cuttin' an' weldin' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I want to post a 286kb picture from My Documents, but I keep getting this message - Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in D:\InetPub\www.914world.com\bbs2\index.php on line 6

Why does that happen? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

You must be on a dialup, or the pic is not a .jpg or bmp.

We really have the upload thing locked down so people dont upload virus' to the server.

If you on dialup... we have a timeout set to 30 seconds for uploads (again..for security)

feel free to email it to me Brad@all914.com and I'll post it for you.

I just joined. I should be getting my 914 in a few days. It is a 1974 that has some issues. Mainly there is alot of surface rust, No holes just surface. I plan on prepping it and hopefully getting it painted before I leave for Boot camp in a year.

Welcome Eric and Andy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Glad to see your first post including a pic of your car. Dont be shy about jumping into the main BBS and posting questions. I think Eric is/was a Rennlist regular. I could be wrong but the name sounds familiar.

Why not just swap the 1.8 for a 2.0 and keep the L-Jet? As long as it's only an interim solution anyway. Leaves more $$ for (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)

I'm running a 2.0 with the 1.8 FI, only changes involved the intake runners and injectors. I had to cut and re-weld the runners to match-up to the plenum, and simply swapped in injectors from a 2.0 bus. It runs a bit rich, especially on overrun (nice popping from the Bursch!) but it gets great milage due to the increased torque according to Rich @ HPH

CSOBONC Mike Scott in SJ, CA Still trying to unload a '74 1.8...

" picked it up for $4500 Canadian so, thats what, maybe $2700 US. What a deal!
It's a totally cool machine, we are both hooked on it! Who needs drugs, buy a 914 if you need a rush! We now both want more power, this year it gets a 2L d-jet..."

My second 914.
First was a good old green 76 2.0L that was perhaps the most reliable car I've ever owned. It worked, it was way fun, and even as a regular little 914 2.0L I could make horrid street driving kids feel bad in their souped up Eastern imports - sometimes its just the driver.
Sadly, the 2.0L was killed by a Ford Escort on New Years Eve day while going to watch my wife in her big screen debut (featured extra -and she kept her clothes ON!!!).
I came running to this board and with the 'groups' help I found a NEW child.

The second 914. Its a 73 1.7L, I have no real knowledge of the car. Right now I'm putting in another 1.7L engine, the first 1.7 has a bent/broken intake valve problem -AKA a rebuild problem. So far, I'm happy with the new 'look' the first car needed a TON of paint related work, rust, some minor dings etc.

I want to remove the back 'mullet' spoiler, but am waiting until I can have the entire car painted. I have a few little under-carriage related rust issues to deal with over the next year -and naturally, I still have to see how the new engine runs.

Till I can find a 6 cyl I like (and can purchase) this is the car, not very 'beefy' but still, its a dying breed and I'm happy to have one that still breaths!!!

Hey Eric:
Very nice ride, glad to see someone else from the SLC area on this board, echocanyon was in this area never did get a chance to met him and now he's in texas. There are a lot of teeners in this area, I've seen a bunch of them at Ed Andrews shop, maybe sometime we can get a group together and cruise up to Park City or just a cruise. Welcome to the board, a lot of knowledge in here.
