So, the m471 package is just a piece of a larger picture? It was one option listed out of several to make a car ready for competition. Customers could have the look of a GT, but still remain street legal and have the convenience of a normal road car. that about sums it up. and some of those m471 cars were built into full race cars and some went on to make racing history, like the ones glenn pointed out. those started out as m471 cars and were built into GTs. the difference in opinion is if those were "real" GTs or not. my point of view is that a "real" GT was built by porsche, glenn's view is that any car with racing history, built to GT specs using factory parts qualifies as a "real" GT ... just a different way of looking at things, really ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) Andy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) well put Andy Now lets talk about 9140430012! |

Now lets talk about 9140430012! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) well, i've only seen a few pictures of your car, so i'm not qualified to comment on it, but you're certainly welcome to share some more info about it if you like ... i hear it still sports a few "prototype" parts, like the rather crude FG air-vents ... back then Porsche would build damn near anything to order so, yeah they came from the Factory with flares welded on OR you could have Dealer install the M471 parts ie flares and rims on your car.
It still was a stock six with flares on it... looked cool too. but it weren't no GT unless the rest of the goodies was installed which were Porsche parts for Racing not street legal parts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Yeah, lets talk about 012 some as its been I loong time since I heard any new news about it.. yes it has some unusual part, speaker grills, windshield washer container, visor mounts. also has a strange bracket under the dash???
look at this ad for the car from 1974 isn't it strange the owner knew about 48 GTs being produced in 1974? |

(from one of the prototype cars) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) can you post a picture of the bracket in question? i have hundreds of pictures of one of the prototypes to compare it to. there was some *very* interesting stuff behind that dash ... It's interesting that they list "Safety Belts" as optional equipment.

It is odd that the COA lists a delivery date of Dec 1, 1969. The 9140430033 has a DOT decal that shows it was produced in Nov, 1969. I would suspect that 0012 would have been produced much earlier. 9140430033 has a chassis # of 130008 and 0012 did not get such a chassis #.
Glenn, can you show a good shot of the door interior framing please. We know the prototype doors were quite different stampings. Perhaps we should compare the headlight areas with the prototype also. |

Thanks, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that M471 was available as a dealer installed kit. Anyways, I agree, more info on 0012! |

Dave - as you wrote: #0033 - was produced in Nov, 1969 #0012 - was delivered at Dec 1, 1969 - the COA also states that it was for "Porsche Factory Use" my guess: it was delivered after the factory use (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wavey.gif) Gustl |

I have examined the doorframes on #12 and have not noticed any differences from stock doors; they even have the pieces of sound deadening found on the 6s.
I don't think the delivery date reflects the date it was built. The owner from 1974 said he checked on the car and it was delivered with flares, so this could have taken some time as well. I can say that judging from the date stamps on the oil hoses, gauges and heads I don't think it was produced before July of 1969. |

More History:
The earliest owner (’74) I can find bought the car from a guy who had a SCCA BRE Datsun. This owner said the car was raced at Watkins Glen and Daytona; I cannot definitively link it to any racer at this point. The next owner was Michael Grishan sp? from Foreign Intrigue who had a whole file on the car (that he was kind enough to send me). He only had the car for a year or so before selling it. He also noted on the paper containing the advertisement that it was raced at Watkins Glen and Daytona. There was 1 owner in between Michael and the guy I bought it from but I cannot locate him. The guy I bought the car from was a class A #$%#hole, he did not give me the toolkit and other documents as he had promised. He did give me 3 photos of the restoration. In one of these pictures you can see a couple layers of paint on the windshield frame 1 layer looks orange and the other looks greenish blue which makes me believe that it might have been raced. The rockers are steel with the GT fiberglass blended on the ends. This is all that I have been able to uncover in the 11 years I have had the car, I went to the Factory in ’97 where I talked with everybody I could find but they all said the records have been destroyed. |
