Alrighty....
"School" is over and it is time to get out there and kill some cones. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Saturday is our first AX of the 2011 season.
Weather forecast is for rain off and on all day...so street tires may do pretty well overall.
Still going for PAX and so far it appears that two major competitors from last season are out...at least for now...one guy sold his very trick BoxsterS (having hip surgery I believe) and the other hasn't signed up for the event. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

And the best part is that I designed the course....lots of high speed transitions...you know, the ones that 911 drivers hate (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)
If it is wet out, the 911s are going to have a tough time of it...
here is the quick sketch....
start and then thru the small loop....then a series of offset gates, one chicane, more off set gates, big high speed decreasing radius loop at the far end, and then a looooong slalom with increasing spacing and then decreasing spacing.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
~4,000' in length.

well, I guess the car is running pretty well.
Saturday's AX was in the wet and rain all day. Our run group got the early wet surface, it started to dry out for the second group, and then just before our second runs it started pouring....standing water everywhere... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
A well set up stock 914 does pretty well in the rain...
I finished in the top 1/3 overall and won my class and then won PAX overall. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)
PAX=performance AX index. it is a way to compare cars/drivers from different classes.

Pretty evident that the rain was an equalizer...but I will bask in my results until our next event.
Fastest time by a GT3 running Hoosier Rains was a 55 and change. The GT3 is professionally set up for SCCA National competition with two very good drivers. My best time in the pouring rain, with standing water in several places was a 60.6 on Full tread Dunny Dirreza Star Specs...

Thanks Dave.
for my main reason of getting it, which was to ensure a good solid 2-3 upshift downshift in the heat of battle it works very well.
I am getting used to it and the more I use it the more I like it.
It is a totally different feel from a stock shifter or even a stock shifter with a short shift conversion.
it flows into 2nd from first very nicely and you have to physically push it over to go into 4th....that is part of the design...
For what it is and compared to a stock shifter it is nice. I am glad I was able to find it for a slightly lower price. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The more I use it the more I like it. As it breaks in and I become more accustomed to it, it becomes more intuitive. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I really like the 1-2 shift.

I know these are kinda spendy, but after driving a direct shift (my squareback) around for a few months, then hoping into my 914.....

I had no other excuses about the shifting. The tranny was rebuilt in 2010 and all new bushings for shifter mechanism, front to rear!
So this was the last piece of the puzzle.
Only thing I may do is to install some 911 sport mounts for the tranny, then call it done. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Very interesting. Do you think it's getting better because you are more used to the different feel, or is it due to the mechanical break in period? How about getting into first after a long stoplight? Getting into first gear after a long stop is getting crankier for me, but blipping the throttle seems to help.

I'd like to check out your Rennshift one day ...... maybe next time you're at Ken's Sportech?

I build them drive them for awhile, and then move on to another project. May be moving to a 2003 or 2004 BoxsterS and slowly install full Spec Boxster suspension....
I have helped build several Spec Boxes over the last few years and have wanted to take the suspension and put it in a car with more HP.
I have done many laps in Spec Boxsters, doing suspension development testing. So I have a few ideas I would like to try. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If I wanted to Go back to the track big time, I would be looking at Elliott's car...

How about building a Boxster S with the Cayman top. Lighter than the Cayman R for 1/3rd of the price? White of course.
