I'm a bit surprised that those cars/parts are hard to come by. The Simca 1000 was pretty much everywhere when i was growing up in Germany. I never considered them rare.

That makes two of us, but I never found anybody who had a parts car or a parts stash. Even this guy had two whole cars and was reluctant to sell me a part.
I think they are only rare now because like the Chevy Citation, they all got junked whole.

Ok, so everyone in the shop is on vacation but me, so perfect time to get back on this car. My goal is to have the body mounted by the end of the week, but even if I don't make it I hope to get some good work done.
First part of the plan was setting the body where it needs to be in terms of wheel wells and over height on the chassis. I got some of that dialed in today, had to make some mods on the hood channel that I will go back and finish later. The bodywork is very tight on the shock tops, but I think I can make it work, though servicing the shock will be a nightmare later.
Once I get the body roughly where i need it I'm doing to weld up some support for the door hinge mounts, while also giving overall support to the door jamb. This will support the middle of the front part of the car, with additional supports behind the seats and along the lower door threshold.
Stay tuned, new updates all week!

The silver car is 904-0014, which I was able to take lots of pics several years ago. I'm glad I did because my friend sold it last year! This is the door hinge mounts I have to copy.

So today was a big day of which path to take? I had originally thought I would recreate the way Porsche did the door hinges. I also reached out to the guys at BECK to see how they do it, they sent me over pics of how they do it, which is different. I also had some standard 356 hinge mounts and tried those. But none were really working with the inner door setup I have. I decided to fab up a piece on either side to both support the body and provide a landing zone for the door hinges. I went by Metal Supermarkets and grabbed a sheet of 10 gauge steel. I looked at most of the heavy structural parts of the 914 and they were made with 10 gauge so figured 10 was the way to go. I have a cardboard template of the piece I'll need to make. In addition to cutting it to shape I will have to do some shaping to get it to fit the curve of the inner door, not looking forward to shaping thick metal, but it can be done. Stay tuned.

Been a while since I've seen an update on this thread. I have no advise or meaningful contribution other than being a fan of the build.

I've been spending all my free time working on the 550 build, but I think I can squeeze out a week on this one.

Today is shaping up to be as "went as planned" kind of day. I was able to cut the inner piece for the hinge pocket and it fits pretty nice. This will tie into the chassis at multiple points so should be strong. I was also able to make a piece on top of it that supports one of the main strong points of the body and this will weld directly into the chassis at multiple points so will provide solid support for the body.

I wrapped up the week on a high note. It might not look like much but I got the body placed where I want it and made the two "ears" that go in the door hinge pocket. Shaping the thick 10 gauge steel has left with with sore wrists but I got it done.

Adam - Glad you had some time to get back on this project. It's not easy getting going after a long layoff. That hood is massive. Must have some serious reinforcing on the back side to keep from oil canning.

Nice work.
